Just a heads up that the cities snow totals were just updated. Syracuse stays in the lead but it’s still a super close snow race and with a couple of storms brewing for this week it should get interesting

All of the Snowiest Cities in the US Just Updated
February 22nd, 2010Syracuse Still King and Pittsburgh in Top 5
February 18th, 2010I just did a fast top 10 update and Syracuse is still the king of the snow mountain. Pittsburgh with it’s last snowfall did what I thought they would do and moved up a couple of spots to make it into the top 5. As a matter of fact the PA cities are owning the top 5 with 3 of them in it. Pretty impressive in my opinion to be able to surpass the mighty New York cities of Buffalo and Rochester. This could be a state rivalry in the works. Just imagine the bragging rights Pitt would have if they happened to beat the always snowy Erie, Pa. Pretty cool IMO. Will try and get a full update in either today or on Friday.
Have a Super Day All!
Syracuse King of the Snow Mountain Maybe???
February 16th, 2010Pay attention to the maybe in the headline above. This should get some good controversy going
I just did a full update with all of the cities and seen a few adjustments to a few cities. This happens during the season and has always happened at the smaller goldensnowball website every season. Sometimes it’s just a mistake while NOAA is updating the most recent stats. Other times it’s an adjustment that NOAA is making to the city stats because they may have found a mistake from previous updates which could go back a few weeks. Either way it’s not any kind of conspiracy and for now we will keep Syracuse as in the lead unofficially. No biggy, trust me on this my good friends in Baltimore
With Pittsburgh in the top 10 now and still on the move I got to do an interview with a radio station in the Pittsburgh area. Every now and then I’ll get a call or an email from a journalist or reporter asking questions about our snow contest all in fun So anyways I was talking with Maria Leaf a Reporter at, Newsradio 1020 KDKA
She was a very friendly women and asked some good questions all of which I was clueless to of course
When it comes to interviews I’m a big time sissy man and pretty much just freeze up and try to wing it. Kind of like I am when I first talk to a woman at a bar. Well I suppose after a few soda pops I do a little better but I didn’t have a chance for that today. For anyone interested in hearing the interview of the clueless (Me) you can check it out at Newsradio 1020 KDKA sometime tomorrow morning between 5 am and 9 am on their morning news. That’s if it even makes it past the cutting table. Unfortunately I’ll still be sleeping. So if it does make in on the air Hello and a Big Welcome to those of you in Pittsburgh. Hmmmm, a big welcome even though ya’s did spank us (Syracuse) for our first loss of the season. Pitt – Syracuse rematch at the garden????
Have a great Day All!!!
Snowiest City Update Coming Sometime Today
February 14th, 2010First off I’ve gotten hit with a lot of great emails and thanks for all the response. I’ll be answering them as soon as I have a chance. The same with the comments on here. I am reading all of them as they are posted.
The top 10 snowiest cities have been updated and hopefully all of the cities will be updated. I’ll post here when the update is done. Syracuse Orange -vs- Louisville at 1:00 PM so chances are that there will be a 2 hour break at 1
GO CUSE!!!
Happy Valentines Day All
Baltimore Storms Past Syracuse for The Lead
February 11th, 2010I just did a full update and if the stats are right Baltimore is now king of the snow mountain. Just typing that made me have to take another look at the stats. A city from Maryland, the state that has one of my favorite vacation places (Ocean City) that on average has about a foot of snow at this time is leading if my stats are correct. I’m loving it
Ummm, as long as they don’t hold the lead for too long that is
Here is a good article by Frank Roylance who is a reporter for The Baltimore Sun that puts into perspective as to what is going on in Baltimore, Maryland snow wise! http://weblogs.marylandweather.com/2010/02/so_far_this_winter_6_feet_7_in.html
Washington, DC has made it into the top 10 even after the switch from Dulles to National. Most likely I’ll be talking to someone from NOAA in the next week or so to see what they think about the locations and so on.
The Pa. cities are cashing in big time with these snow storms with 3 of them in the top ten. Erie, Pa I expected to be a tough competitor but I didn’t think Pittsburgh and no way Philadelphia to be in there. My brother lives in Philly and in the last 2 days he must have called here about 10 times rubbing it in
If you have any cool snow pictures you can send them to comments@goldensnowglobe.com and I’ll post them here on the site. Just let me know where the pics were taking and any other info you want to add.
Here in Syracuse all is pretty quiet with just snow showers in the forecast and I won’t even begin to tell those of you in DC, PA and Maryland how jealous I am right now. That just doesn’t sound right either!
Have a Great Snowy Day All!
The Top 10 Snowiest Cities Updated
February 10th, 201011:35 PM 2/10 – Look for a full update on all of the cities sometime tomorrow 2/11
I just updated the top 10 cities to see how it’s looking with all the snow falling in the DC, PA and other states right now. KEEP IN MIND that some of the stats are from like around 1:00 am in the morning and some of the stats are from around 7 am this morning. That meaning there is still a lot of snow to report for most of the cities and it’s still snowing. Click her to check the current top 10. I’m going to try and at least get another top 10 update done later tonight when more stats come in
Washington, Baltimore and Philly Piling on the Snow
February 8th, 2010First off I’m sorry about the lack of updates but a member of my family has been really sick. I’ll try to get at least the top 10 snowiest cities updated more frequently like at least every other day and as time permits with the full update.
Who would have thought that at this time in the season that Baltimore, MD, Philadelphia, PA and Washington, DC would be where they are right now in the snow lineup. It gets even better or worse depending how you look at it. There are a couple of storms going on right now and if all falls in place there could be a good chance that a couple of those cities may be in the lead for the snowiest city in the United States in the next few days. Pretty cool IMO
All 3 of the cities are about 50 inches above their normal snowfall for this time in the season give or take a little. I was expecting or at least hoping for a good snow contest for the first season but now way did I see it playing out like this. Syracuse is still king of the snow mountain but the snow race has a lot of snow days to go and right now the top prize as snowiest big city (pop 100,000) is up for grabs. Hopefully we’ll have more frequent updates from here on!
Have a Great Week All!
The Snowiest Cities in the US are Updated
January 30th, 2010OK, I’m an idiot
I did an update on the stats late yesterday except there was one problem. I forgot to upload them to the site. Anyways he stats have been updated and they should be up to date as of earlier yesterday, 1/29. A few changes in the top 10 but Da’Cuse continues to hold the lead. Erie, Pa and Buffalo, NY are closing in on Syracuse and it’s a pretty tight snow race right now. I’ll try and get another update done in the next day or two once the storm that’s going on now is over.
Have a Great Weekend All
Boring Comes to Mind – Snow Stats Updated 1/17/2010
January 18th, 2010No doubt this was the most boring update since we started keeping track of the snowiest cities. No changes in the top 10 and only a few changes for the rest of the US cities. It’s looking like some changes may be coming weather wise but it may depend on whether it’s rain, snow or a mix. A good part of the northeast is seeing rain and a mix right now as I type including where I’m from, the Syracuse area.
To the north west I’m hearing about several storm systems moving in one after another but again it will depend on the temperatures and where they hit. Could be a chance for the Colorado cities to start up again. Let’s hope that the Arctic air come back and gets some of the lakes cranking out the LES sooner rather than later.
Have a Great Work Week All
The Snowiest US Cities Updated 1/9/2010
January 7th, 2010The new snow stats have been updated as of 1/9/10. Click Here to check out the snowiest US cities! There was a more shifting around in the top 10 snowiest cities. A lot of the cities around the Great Lakes seemed to fair well this last update. Mostly because of the cold air creating some good lake effect snow. The chances are there just may be a new leader come the next update. Will it be Syracuse or will another of the top 10 cities take the snowy spot as King of the snow mountain.
