Colorado Starts 2017-2018 Golden Snow Globe Contest

Congrats to the Colorado cities on kicking off the 2017-2018 Golden Snow Globe snow contest for big cities this season :) Both Lakewood, Colorado and Colorado Springs are reporting measurable snow for today. I’m still waiting on Denver and a couple of other cities to report which may not be until tomorrow.

If I was a betting man I would guess that at least Denver will have measurable snowfall come the next update. It looks like we need to keep an eye on Lakewood, CO already this season because they won the national snow contest for big cities (Population 100,000 or more) in the 2015-2016 snow season.

Last season Syracuse, New York was the winner for the 2016-2017 snow season. I’m sure it will be awhile for a lot of the cities to get some measurable snow but I’ll keep updating as they report. It should be another fun snow contest this season like it always is. All about having some fun as we pass the snowy months by. Have a Great night all and Come On Yankees :)

Most Snow Ever in Past Seasons to Date

As I am waiting for snow stats to come in I thought it would be interesting to see what some of the cities highest seasonal snow totals to date ever would be. In other words, what is the most snow that some of the Big cities have received in the past from July 1st thru October 8th, today’s date.

I figured the city with the highest past snow totals to date would be either Anchorage, Alaska or a city from Colorado. I was right but I was surprised by the amount of snow that Colorado Springs, Colorado had to take the top spot. Colorado Springs had 34.1 inches of snow to date back in 1959. They are also the only city that I have in the lineup in the snow contest right now that is reporting a trace of snow.

That has already changed and the chances are good that the 2017-2018 National Golden Snow Globe contest has started up. Now, all we have to do is wait for the snow totals to come in for the Colorado cities that are getting snow today. Below are snow records to date for some of the cities past snow seasons. Pretty interesting in my opinion ;)
