Erie, Pa has cushioned their lead with some more of the white fluffy stuff falling since the last update. I heard from a lot of people from Erie saying how hard the lake effect snow was coming down the other night. The rest of us better hope that it’s stopped by now because they have over a foot lead now on the second place city, Da’Cuse.

I know it seems like it’s Erie, Erie, Erie, Marsha, Marsha, Marsha right now but you have to be impressed with their snow totals this early in the season. Just think, they have more than double of what their normal snowfall should be for this time in the season. Right now they are at 45.0 inches of snow and counting compared to their normal of 21.1 inches of snow. What stands out the most is that last season at this time they had a whopping or make that wimpy 3.1 inches of snow. They are almost 42 inches ahead of last season at this time. WTG Erie but watch your back. We are all coming to knock you down that snow mountain ;)

Erie, Pa, one of the heavy weights when it comes to snowiest big cities better keep it up though because they are being chased right now from the great state of New York cities and they are the Big 3. Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo, NY. It’s been snowing off and on in a couple of those cities and most likely they will be adding to their snow totals.

Up to the north of Syracuse in places like Fulton, the Tug Hill area, Oswego and Watertown just to name a few have been piling up several feet of snow this past week or so. I’m sure there are a lot of the smaller cities and towns around Erie and in a couple of other states that are getting pounded also. I get a lot of complaints or comments about how much snow they get and why aren’t they in the snow contest. I respect all of you who live in those places that get hammered, with snow that is ;) and how you have to deal with it. The reason is that when the storms hit in the big cities it obviously affects a lot more people. One of the other reasons is that The National Weather service doesn’t report the snow stats for most of the smaller cities. They do for some but it would be almost impossible to get Official snow stats for most of the smaller cities. That and not to mention there would probably be a couple of hundred of them and by the time I finished the first update the season would be over. So like I mentioned, my respect kudos to all of the smaller cities and towns like Booneville, Tug Hill Oswego and so on.

Have an Awesome Night All!

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that I’m hoping to have the website up soon.  I have almost literally been working on it for around 24 hours now.  The problem is with my hosting company and the time it is taking them to get back to me.  Most likely changes are coming down the road.

This is something that should have taken no longer than 2 hours to straighten out but unfortunately I am on the phone with them right now as I type.  Keeping my fingers crossed that this support person knows what they are doing :(

A few errands to run and hopefully the site will be back up and I can get an update in :)

Nothing going on with the top 5 snowiest cities since the last update but a whole lot of shuffling going on from the cities below. The cities from Ohio and Minnesota did pretty good this update moving up the mountain. There are still a lot of cities staying close and it should be interesting to see what happens when this storm that is hitting the east coast is done and over with.

Pittsburgh joined the top 10 snowiest cities pushing Buffalo, NY out of the top 10. Pitt, PA may still be climbing as it looks like it is still snowing there. I’m watching the Philadelphia game and no doubt come the next update they will be climbing the snow mountain. It’s been snowing the whole game so far with some heavy snow falling at times. Being a Giants fan the game is starting to head in the wrong direction score wise and I’m sure I’ll be hearing from my brother who lives in Philly sometime soon unfortunately. It’s not looking good for the Giants either way so the chances are if they get eliminated I’ll be pulling for Philly who I normally root for after the Giants and the Jets.

Is it snowing in Erie today? Not a whole lot here in Syracuse or central New York yet and last I looked it’s going to be more of a mix than just all snow for us so this could be a chance for Erie to cushion their lead over the New Your cities. I’ll be checking the totals off and on as the National Weather Service reports them and will maybe do a top 10 update later if things change.

Enjoy What’s Left of the Weekend All ;)

Updated Right Around Midnight - It seems like I am trying to make a Snow Angel but I just keep going around in circles the last few days. With the Thanksgiving Day holiday I am having a hard enough time trying to figure out what day it is let alone trying to keep up with which city is leading the National snow contest. In the voice of President Ronald Reagan all I can say is “Here We Go Again“. Some snow stats came out a little earlier and the New leader who was an old leader a few updates ago is once again Erie, Pa. Congrats again to all of you from Erie on pushing Syracuse down the snow mountain and reclaiming the top spot :) I guess I’ll just leave it at that and say STAY TUNED once again ;)

Updated 2:30 PM Friday 11/29 - Wow, talk about a lot of different lead changes. We have a new leader in the Golden Snow Globe National Snow Contest and go figure it’s Syracuse, NY., last seasons champion. This is something like 3 different leaders in 3 days and the good news is that the snow race is still really close. Only 4 tenths of an inch is separating the top 3 cities which are Syracuse, NY, Erie, PA and Rochester, NY. Just 0.1 inches separating Erie and Rochester for second place. If I were a betting man, oh yeah I am :) I would bet that there will be quite a few lead changes on the top of the snow mountain before this season wraps up. Enough for now and if anything changes come the next update from the National Weather Service then I’ll post another update. Stay Tuned ;)

Updated Noon Thanksgiving – Sorry Erie but your spot as King of the Snow Mountain was pretty short lived.  I just updated the New York snow contest and as of the wee hours of the morning Rochester, NY has taken the lead by a couple of snowflakes now.  Rochester is reporting 11.6 inches of snowfall as of the end of yesterday.  You were there for a few hours at least Erie, more than my Syracuse can say ;)

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

—————————————————————————————-

Congrats to Erie, Pa for taking the lead in the National Snow Contest by a couple of snowflakes. Erie picked up just enough snow to overtake Anchorage, Alaska for the top spot on the snow mountain with this last storm that seemed to benefit the northeast cities. Not mine of course but a lot of the other cities in the snow contest moved up the mountain and as of about 3:00am this morning Erie is the king. The question now is can they hold onto the lead with the top being pretty close between a few of the cities? The cold air looks like it is here for awhile so most like the snow will keep falling. Enough for now on this Thanksgiving Day. Enjoy All!

Happy Thanksgiving From Our Family to Yours! Have a Safe Happy Holiday :)

This is kind of a repeat post from our NY snow contest site but I figure this snow storm will most likely be affecting several of the cities in the National Snow Contest too so why now ;) Lets put a few of the NY cities in along with a couple from Pennsylvania. Chances are all of these cities will get some snow if not a lot.

OK, does anyone have any estimates for this storm? Let’s say from the start to finish and we’ll call the finish date Thursday at 11:59 PM just in case some lake effect snow gets drawn into the cities when this pulls out.. The normal prize will be a lot of Natta as in Natta Thing other than a virtual pat on the back for calling it right. The person closest to the snow total for all of the cities snow added up wins. My guesstimate is below and you can post yours in the comments section anytime before midnight tonight, Tuesday.

Erie – 14
Rochester – 13.5
Syracuse – 9.0
Buffalo – 7.0
Pittsburg – 6
TOTAL = 49.5 inches :)

Normally I love a good storm but I really do wish or hope that they don’t happen during the holiday travel times. Unfortunately this storm most likely will effect quite a few people that will be traveling on Wednesday for the Thanksgiving holiday. For those of you traveling take it slow and have a safe trip. I know I’ll be worrying about a few of my family members who will be traveling. Take it slow and be prepared.

Stay Safe and Have a Safe Trip ;)

I kind of just want to just yell out NOOOOOOOOO but that isn’t going to stop the snow from coming and over taking the warm summer and fall days that seem to have just flied by like the snow will be flying sometime really soon :( Yup, here we go again and the contest has actually already begun. I took a peak around and sure enough some of the cities have some measurable snowfall totals and it’s mainly the Colorado cities. They were the ones who stretched the national snow contest out last season and go figure they want to get a jump start this season..

The snow contest for the 2012 – 2013 snow season was one of the closest and most exciting contest since we started up the national snow site. As always we had to wait for some of the Colorado cities before we could call it but it was a great snow race right to the end between Erie, Pa, Worcester, Mass, Syracuse, New York and some of the cities from Colorado who made a late charge at the end.

A lot of back and forth between Erie, Worcester and Syracuse but Syracuse, NY was able to get some late snow, I think about a foot if my memory serves me right (it normally doesn’t so beware) to jump into the lead and take claim to the snowiest big city for the 2012 – 2013 season. Congrats to Syracuse and all of the other cities who hung tough till the end. It was a fun snow season :)

I’ll be checking some stats tonight and hope to get at least a top 10 update in and maybe more tonight. Hey, it’s been awhile and I have to remember how to this stuff again. Hopefully NOAA, the National Weather Service hasn’t made too many changes in the off season.

Have a Great Snowy Season All and Stay Safe ;)   As Always, See Snow Drive Slow!

Not a whole lot of changes this last update which included all of the cities. Most of the snowiest cities were pretty much snow-less since the last update but with the way this snow season has gone so far it’s still too early to crown a winner in my opinion.

A few of the Colorado cities are getting some snow but I think the city to keep an eye on right now is Anchorage. Once again this season they are over their normal snowfall totals and it seems every time I check their snow stats they have more snow to add. They are still in striking distance along with Erie, PA and Worcester, MA.

The warm air was suppose to show up in the Syracuse area this week but that never happened. I didn’t look to see if Erie has gotten into the warm air yet. To sum it up I think as long as the cold air is sticking around any of the top 4 cities can keep adding to their totals. I’ll be getting the updates in as I see the snow falling and Good Luck to the cities near the top ;)

Have a Great Week Everyone :)

The new snow stats have finally come in and we have a new leader for the first time in awhile. Syracuse was able to tap into the Lake Effect snow this time round and managed to break the old record for todays date 4/2 picking up 10.5 inches of the white fluffy gold breaking the old date record of 1.4 set back in 1991.  They may have a shot at breaking their snow totals record for the month of April which I believe is 16.4 back in 1983 if it continues for a day or two.

Here is an article that came out today by Sean Kirst who is a great journalist for the Post Standard and Syracuse.com in the Syracuse and surrounding areas about the national snow contest.

Now it is up to Erie and Worcester to catch Syracuse, the new king of the snow mountain. Both cities were reporting just a trace this last update which included just the top 3 cities. Here in Da’Cuse it’s been light snow most of the day but it looks like one of the lake effect bands are just starting to kick in again as it’s coming down pretty good.

I have to say that this season has been the most exciting and closest one that I can remember since the snow contest started :) Let’s go Erie and Worcester, keep it close to the end. I’ll try and get a full or at least a top 10 update done in the next day or two.

Have a GREAT Week All!!

To be honest I don’t have a clue right now but I think it will be pretty close.  The problem is that the overnight snow stats aren’t out yet so I’ll do a quick update a bit later.  Hey, is there any new snow in Erie, PA?

I don’t think Worcester will have much to add to their snow totals but Erie may have gotten some new snow and Syracuse definitely got some decent lake effect snow last night as I am looking at it out my window right now.  The suspense is killing me though as to how much Syracuse received overnight and if Erie picked up any.  Syracuse may have gotten enough to take over the top spot from Worcester, MA who has held on to the lead for quite awhile now.

Not much info to share right now but I’ll be posting when the new NOAA snow stats come out.  Stay Tuned ;)

First Off a Happy Easter to You and Your Family From Ours :)

Erie, Pa managed to slip past Syracuse while I wasn’t paying attention. Now they are only 4.2 inches away from catching up to the snow leader Worcester, MA. Erie picked up a 1.3 inch lead over Syracuse where it has actually been sunny the last day or two.

I did just a top 20 update today and I’ll be keeping an eye on the weather and posting new totals throughout the week.

HAVE a HAPPY EASTER ALL!
