  1. I’m not too worried about Erie, for the same reason that Buffalo falters in the middle of most seasons: Lake Erie will freeze over at some point. Then you can kiss the Lake Effect good bye for those cities.

    The Michigan cities, however, are the ones where one good LES storm could really change the standings up a bit. As far as I know, the Great Lakes surrounding Michigan are deeper than Erie, so it’ll be longer until they freeze over, if that should occur.

    The Colorado cities could get enough out of a couple storms that end up just skimming the Northeast, so I wouldn’t rule them out yet either.

    So, as far as any U.S. city toppling Syracuse goes, I’d first suspect the Michigan cities followed by Colorado ones.
