A Trace of Snow in Pueblo, Colorado Springs, and Omaha

Is anyone ready to get the snow season going yet? I’m guessing only a few of you with winter toys are ready but believe it or not some cities in the Golden Snow Globe contest are already showing a trace of snow. Hey, I’m just the messenger ;)

I figured I would do a reset of all of the snow stats from last season, the 2015-2016 snow season, after reading about a few of the smaller cities receiving measurable snowfall in parts of the US. I’m pretty sure this is the earliest I have ever done an update on the snow site since the Golden Snow Globe snow contest began back in the 2009-2010 season.

Anyways, none of the Big cities are showing measurable snowfall yet but there are a few cities that are showing a trace. Remember, measurable snow is a tenth of an inch or more. There are however several that are showing a trace of snow including a couple that I’m not too sure about but the National Weather Service is reporting it.

So far Omaha, Nebraska, Pueblo and Colorado Springs, Colorado are showing a trace of snow for the new 2016-2017 snow season. There are a few more that I am hesitant to add to the list right now. The new season starts on July 1st and ends on June 30th. Normally, I start looking at the cities sometime in October so if I don’t see any snow being reported chance are there won’t be an update for awhile :)

OK, believe it or not, El Paso, Texas is showing a trace of snow which I believe they (Supposedly) received on August 21st. The only problem I am having is that on Aug 21st, the high temp was 86 and the low 63. Does Hail count? Amarillo, TX, and Topeka, KS are also showing a trace of snow so far on the season.

A big WOW to seeing those stats in the NWS snow stats. Looking at the temps in El Paso around that time, hard to believe, so for now, I am going to leave them at zero and out of the contest for now. Hopefully, one of you more knowledgeable than me (Ha, like you exist, j/k :P ) can explain to me if I am wrong for leaving these cities out.

A Couple of Fun Snow Facts Per the National Weather Service

Here a few of the snow stats that caught my eye while doing this update.  This update was done on 9/8/2016

* Billings, Montana’s normal snowfall to date on average is 0.1 inches of snow.

* September 3rd, 1961 Denver. Co received 4.2 inches of snow which is the highest to date for this time of the season.

Enjoy the rest of the summer all and I’ll be seeing you all soon. Let’s hope not too soon, though ;)
