The 2023-2024 Top 25 Snowiest Cities in The United States With Most Snow
Top 25 Snowiest US Cities Were Updated 6/30/2024 8:00 PM
First off as always, a BIG Thanks to those who made donations so far this season. I truly appreciate them and they help out a lot PayPal does accept most credit cards and Please let me know where you are from in the description box at Pay Pal OK, end of begging, and stay safe this snowy season
A Big Thanks To You Folks For Your Donations This Season:
The Top 25 snowiest US cities over 100,000 and we will add them as we find them and as the new 2020 census becomes available..
The first number is the current spot the city is on the snow mountain last updated. The second number is where the city was at the end of the last season. We will be switching it to how the city started this season and then the current updated place as the cities receive snowfall totals.
This is where the Top Twenty Five Snowiest US Cities leading so far in the Golden Snow Globe Contest will be updated. Does your city have what it takes to stay in the top 25? All of the cities will be on a rolling system with only the top 25 snowiest cities here on the main page. That means that if your city is number 25 and another city passes yours, poof, your city is gone from this section. Can your city stay in the top twenty-five is the question? Our guess is that there will be some bouncing around especially at the beginning.

Randy,
It is a bit more complicated to figure out the stats for cities of 50,000 or more. According to http://www.demographia.com/db-uscity98.htm, there are over 600 cities that have 50,000 ore more. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of official data for cities below 100,000. I am guessing that’s why the cut of was set where it was. Pat would have to say why he did set a threshold and not just use each NWS station though.
My initial guess is that Flagstaff would be either the top, or near the top, if the cut off was 50,000, or if NWS stations were used.
Stephen
Syracuse just got pummeled with snow again yesterday. Schools closed 2 days in a row. Approximately 2 feet of new snow (need confirmation). Hopefully this should cement our winning the Golden Snow Globe this year!

Hi, all,
We’re in Flagstaff, Arizona, sitting on 110 inches to date. Any idea how we would rate if the screen for the list were lowered to all cities above 50,000 in pop instead of 100K?

Hi Stephanie, According to the NWS I’m showing 73.1 . I could be wrong though and trust me it won’t be the first or last time that I am
http://www.weather.gov/climate/getclimate.php?date=&wfo=phi&sid=PHL&pil=CLI&recent=yes&specdate=2010-02-18+21%3A26%3A01
Philadelphia should be 72.1 not 73.1 according to the NWS Mt Holly, NJ.
ZR800,
The NOAA site you linked was for NYC. Though I haven’t seen NOAA info on Baltimore, Baltimore meterologist have stated that both of the recent storms DID meet or exceed “blizzard” conditions.
I am sad that you removed Dulles from the list. Perhaps have two DCs? National and Dulles?
Hello Rochester… Hello Rochesterrrr, 13 loves you…
It wasn’t a blizzard.

Who would have guessed Baltimore is the snowiest city in America right now? Me!! With two blizzards in four days, the kids haven’t been to school all week.
Good little post about the snow in Baltimore:

Hi Patrick,
Baltimore! Who knew?
Would it be possible to list the comments as “most recent” first? That would be great.
I’m just curious your criteria for listing cities? I’d be interested in Wilmington DE. Yea, it’s in-between Philly and Baltimore, but the poor little state deserves some representation!
I think you need to update your numbers for DC?
what happened to DC (Dulles)? It was there at no. 2 before the latest snowfall.
Okay, so D.C. was “disqualified” for a “false start.” But, Baltimore is still in the race!
As of 2pm today (February 10, 2010), DC took over the 8th spot…54.9 inches at National Airport.
And still going!

DC has been downgraded from 10-20″ to 7-14″. The dark horse may be #1 by this time tomorrow!
WASHINGTON DC at #2!!!
Cuse has got this locked up, just like the Big East!
Let’s go Cuse!!!!!!!

Hey Patrick,
I’m following Golden Snowball on Twitter. I’d like to see more Tweets.
Blessings,

hey andrew thank you for this information it came in great hand i always wanted to know this information and thanks to you i got it you put it all in one now do you think you can go a little further and help me with me?
I would like to see Buffalo receive a 12″+ snowfall in February.
Pianoman, I get the stats from NOAA the National Weather Service. Here is an example of what I have to look at for Syracuse but some of the different regions have different layouts which make it a little more time consuming so I have different settings for different areas. Below would be the Binghamton weather center which handles the Syracuse area and many others. Just click on Syracuse and then GO and you’ll see what I see. If you click on the now data you’ll see a bunch of other areas that Binghamton covers. Unfortunately a lot of times there are no reports for the towns and cities. My guess is no snow spotter or they just don’t update them too often.
http://www.nws.noaa.gov/climate/index.php?wfo=bgm
Pat, I was just wondering where do you get all the information for Syracuse, and all the other cities??
Pianoman, I hope not rain. I do see that we are in for a warm up the next several days. Lets hope it doesn’t last too long ;(
It has been a little dry….. i hear some rain is in the forecast?!!?
John, thanks for the suggestion So in other words use just the county populations? I would still have to go by the cities for the totals though. Unless you have some snow stats that I am not aware of for counties.
I did come across your name more than once John while looking for geographical information by the way and if there is anyone that is an expert on the populations and geography it would be you. I wonder if you mind me picking your brain from time to time.
This season is kind of a test run to try and get the bugs out and get the feedback like you and others have provided so far. I’m hoping to bring in Canada next season and make it the snowiest city in North America… Thanks again for the suggestion and I do understand about letting people realize how many people are effected by the snow in different parts of the country.
Pianoman, been a little too boring these last couple of days for me although a light snow right now. Time to get the lake effect machines cranking again
Yeah, the snow machine has finally calmed down….. getting ready for more this weekend:)!!!!!!!!!
Hi, Patrick…..enjoy checking the site from time to time (live in Syracuse area). One suggestion is that you use the population totals for the county containing the city (Onondaga for Syracuse, Erie for Buffalo) rather than just cities only…..this gives a better approximation of the hundreds of thousands of residents who have to deal with the leading snowfall totals….these data are readily available online so shouldn’t be too hard to convert (and in many cases reporting sites are likely in suburbs anyway)
TexanMark, Former Syracusan? It’s finally cranking and Da Cuse is in the top 5.
Pianoman, I’m just east of the city and we got about the same. Nothing like a nice storm to finally get things going around here huh..
Go CUSE!!!!!
I live in a suburb northeast of syracuse, and we just got about 20 inches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let’s go Cuse!
Get that lake effect machine going.
I just took a quick look at the site Andrew and it is pretty cool I think when I looked up the annual snowfall for Fort Collins a while back it was something like 55 – 60 inches if I remember right. You should BLOW that away this season.
Back to the Syracuse – Florida basketball game. GO CUSE!!!!
No prob. I heard the 44.2 stat on the radio while I was driving to work. Apparently it’s the most snow we’ve ever had before the official start of winter, and that’s what they were talking about. I’m not sure you’ll find a better source of data. National Weather Service has us at 10″ in FoCo from Dec.6-8th. Another cool site is here:
http://www.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov/snow/
It’s not really the data you’re looking for, but it’s an interesting site nonetheless.
Hey Andrew, thanks for the info I’m hoping more people like you stop by when ya’s have time to let me know what’s happening in your neck of the woods. I’m wondering where your finding your stats at. I’m having a hard time finding some other Colorado cities snow stats and maybe you have what I’m looking for. Right now I’m using http://nowdata.rcc-acis.org/BOU/pubACIS_results to get some of the Colorado cities. No doubt Colorado is king of the snow mountain right now!
Here is a webpage not listed that shows some of the other Colorado cities that I haven’t found yet.
http://goldensnowglobe.com/snowiest-us-cities-stats.html
Thanks again Andrew it’s appreciated and hopefully you’ll be a regular visitor from the great state of Colorado
Hey we just are getting the tail end of another big storm here in CO. Fort Collins so far has a total of 44.2 Inches officially this year…however it’s probably a bit more than that after the rest of this storm came through.
Thanks for the heads up Tom. I’m still trying to gather up all of the stats. The way it’s going I may have them up before the 2010 – 1011 season Chances are that a lot of the cities on there right now will be getting bumped off soon and replaced as I find some other large city stats.
Hey why is Anchorage in the wrong spot?
