Buffalo, New York Wins Both The Golden Snow Globe and Golden Snowball Snow Contests

A Big Congrats to Buffalo, New York of winning both of the snow contests this season and for also being the snowiest Big city with a population of 100,000 or more. It’s been a long time coming and it was a fun close 2018-2019 snow season.

Buffalo, NY is officially the winner as of the end of yesterday, June 30th which is when the snow season ends. Believe it or not, the new snow season started up at midnight, July 1st :) Buffalo was able to hold on to a 3.8 inch lead over second place Syracuse, NY. It’s been a long time since Buffalo out snowed Syracuse which goes all the way back to the 2001-2001 snow season. Wow! Who would have thought it would take that long for Buffalo to take the bragging rights back? Not me! Kudos :)

I know it’s way later than we normally call the snow season but I figured after what happen to Erie, PA last season I would hold off until the snow season was officially over. Last season Erie had around 30 inches of snow taken away from them in the middle of summer. Let’s hope all of the adjustments have been made by now and there aren’t any mid-summer corrections :(

Buffalo wins the Golden Snow Globe snow contest.

Congratulations Buffalo!

How Buffalo beat Syracuse, Rochester, NY, Erie, PA & All of the Others

Yes, the obvious is Buffalo had more snow that all of the other cities, lol :P Buffalo ended up with 118.8 inches of snow this season which is about 2 feet higher their average snowfall for a season. That helped out along with Syracuse coming in this season below the average snowfall that they normally received. On January 25th Syracuse had about a foot lead over Buffalo but on or about January 26th Buffalo stormed past Syracuse to take the lead. I will have a season summary within the next few days laying out how this season played out. It was a lot of fun and I hope everyone else had fun also. Stay tuned for the summary and have a Great summer all ;) Final Top 25 Snowiest Cities in the US Here!

More to be added to this post!

Lowell, Ma, Winner of The National Golden Snow Globe Contest

Congratulations to Lowell, Massachusetts and to the fine folks in Lowell on being the snowiest Big city in the united states for the 2014-2015 snow season. This has by far been the closest snow contest since it began several seasons back. Less than an inch separates the top 3 cities in the Golden Snow Globe contest.

It was looking like the contest was going to end up in a tie between Worcester, Ma and Syracuse, NY for awhile but Lowell managed to pull it off beating both Syracuse and Worcester by only 0.9 of an inch. Syracuse and Worcester both ended the snow season with 119.7 inches of snowfall.

Lowell, Ma deserves the bragging rights after setting their all-time seasonal snow record of 111.5 inches that dated back to the 1947-1948 season according to the National Weather Service website. Unless it snow tonight ;) Lowell has set their all time seasonal record with 120.6 inches this season, 2014-2015. Way to go Lowell!

I was going to drag out the contest a little longer but figured Nah. OK, today is the last day of the 2014-2015 snow season believe it or not. Really!!! The new 2015-2016 snow season starts tomorrow, July 1st :P I have never waited this long to call the National snow contest but being the Sissyman that I am I was a little worried with it being sooo close and that perhaps some corrections would be made by the National Weather Service that I decided to hold off. I did call both National Weather Service office’s that handle Lowell, Worcester and Syracuse to make sure it was safe and both said to call it and both said it was.

I will do a more detailed summary when I have a little more time in the next few days. Once again Congrats to all of you in Lowell, Ma. It’s been a really fun season as always :)

Have a Great Summer All!

The snowiest city in the United States is still a tight snow race and could be right down until the last snow flake falls. Syracuse managed to get just enough snow and t wasn’t much to hold off Erie, Pa to remain King of the Snow Mountain since the last update. Worcester, Mass is still right behind the both of them and don’t count out Rochester, NY yet either. They have been slowly sneaking up on everyone the last few weeks.

One announcement to make is that a snow dance has been done in the Syracuse area :) I felt that the time was right and with the low snow totals we have so far in the Syracuse area it was well overdue also. It normally takes around 2 – 3 days for it to start having any effect on the weather so we’ll wait and see what happens. I suggest someone from Erie and the other cities also try a snow dance if you want to keep up ;) We also have a Snow God which resides in the Fairmount area which is just outside of the city and I’ve been informed that it has been awaken and the light is shining. I have a picture somewhere of it and I’ll post it if I can find it.

Keep in mind where are many weather dances and you could be putting your entire city at risk :( A few years back one of our visitors to our sister site the www.goldensnowball.com  contest decided to try a dance. Well all hell broke out when instead of heavy snow or a snowstorm, high winds hit the city of Buffalo knocking down trees and knocking out power to thousands. True story, lol. So You Have Been Warned!

Have a Great Weekend All…
