Make sure you check out Stephens post below to see how a group of us are doing in the Fantasy Snowfall Contest ;)

Wow and way to go Erie, Pa :) Erie has been piling up the snow the last couple of days and have almost a foot of snow lead on the next closest city which Buffalo, NY who has also had a pretty impressive couple of days of snowfall. My guess is that a lot of the North East cities profited from that snow storm that passed by yesterday and today and I’m sure some good lake effect snow also helped out some of the cities by the big lakes.  Erie is the first city to hit the 3 foot mark.  WTG!

I had some tweets and emails saying that Erie and Buffalo were getting some decent snow but I have to admit I was surprised when I just did this new update. Erie, Pa has been going back and forth since the season started but I believe this is the biggest lead that any city has had this season. Can they hold on to it though ;)

Buffalo, NY has been having a hard time getting into the lake effect snow the last couple of seasons but it’s looking like they have their groove going again. Let’s hope they can keep it going. They climbed from the 13 spot on the snow mountain to the number 2 spot but that may be tough to hold onto with a lot of cities right behind them just waiting for them to take a slip down the mountain.

I think the biggest mover this update was Grand Rapids, Michigan who climbed up 19 spots to jump into the top 10 at number 7 now. Chances are that there is still more snow to add to the totals so look for at least a top 10 update sometime soon, most likely tomorrow.

Have an Awesome Week Everyone :)

Warning, Online Begging Ahead ;) – OK, I hate to do this butttt…. It’s time for our annual, errr bi-annual, ummm quarterly solicitations for donations to the website. It helps to pay for some of the out of pocket costs of hosting the site not to mention the time put into keeping it updated and so on like trying to come up with my clueless posts like this. I promise anything left over will go to food and drink for myself ;) Don’t ever get me wrong. I truly enjoy keeping this site going and have as much fun as I’m sure all of you do seeing the snow stats. OK, maybe not all of you but hopefully some of you ;) Anyways if you enjoy the site and have a couple of bucks and would like to pitch in all you have to do is hit the donate button up above which will take you to my Pay Pal account to donate securely. Thanks, it really does help and it definitely is appreciated no matter how big or small. Bill Gates if you happen to stop by here feel free to drop a million in the account ;) END OF BEGGING :)

OK, on to the snow stuff and it’s been a busy, snowy weekend for some of us. 3 cities fell out of the top 10 on the snow mountain and of course 3 new cities filled their in their slot on the mountain. The 3 cities that dropped out are Salt Lake City, Utah, Denver, Colorado and Cleveland, Ohio. My guess is that a couple of those cities will be back in the top 10 before the season is over.

New into the top 10 are Erie, Pa, Rochester, NY and Syracuse, New York in which all 3 of the cities benefitted this weekend being able to tap into some decent lake effect snow. Syracuse actually tied a snow record for the date yesterday which went back to 1981 picking up 4.5 inches of new snow which is pretty good for this time in the season. I was watching the snow bands yesterday and last night and I thought maybe Erie and Rochester may have gotten a little more but either way the Golden Snow Globe contest is starting to shape up.

One of the fun things about this national snow contest is getting to meet and yes, puff smoke, poke fun and do some friendly trash talking about each others cities and their chance of winning. Yes, that is allowed here in the comment section as long as it’s all in fun. Some of our visitors from Erie seem to dish it out pretty good and the last couple of days it’s been fun going back and forth with a guy I’ll call the Dr. on twitter. All in fun and of course he suggests that we, me being from Syracuse are afraid of Erie, Pa :) I do admit that Erie’s snow stats are one of the first one I look at and keep an eye on during the winter but afraid? Ha! I told the Dr. though that you people from Erie better start making some babies because your population is getting pretty close to the cut off population of 100,000 according to the last census. Only around 1000 people are keeping you in and I would hate to have to drop Erie from the contest, one of our strongest competitors, NOT. Joking aside I think the census is every 10 years so you have plenty of time ;)

Speaking of the census and the populations of the cities, good lead in huh ;) I’ve been putting off updating the new populations since the 2010 census came out but I finally started to update the cities last night and I should have them all updated in a couple of days. OK, enough rambling. Some of us need to keep an eye on what could be a storm coming up the coast come mid week. As much as I like a good storm I’m kind of hoping this one turns out to be rain for most of us just because it’s Thanksgiving week and a lot of people will be travelling. OK, really enough rambling on now.

How it Looked with Snow at My House Last Night

Lake Effect Snowfall in Minoa, NY 11/23/13

HAVE a GREAT WEEK EVERYONE and a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

I kind of just want to just yell out NOOOOOOOOO but that isn’t going to stop the snow from coming and over taking the warm summer and fall days that seem to have just flied by like the snow will be flying sometime really soon :( Yup, here we go again and the contest has actually already begun. I took a peak around and sure enough some of the cities have some measurable snowfall totals and it’s mainly the Colorado cities. They were the ones who stretched the national snow contest out last season and go figure they want to get a jump start this season..

The snow contest for the 2012 – 2013 snow season was one of the closest and most exciting contest since we started up the national snow site. As always we had to wait for some of the Colorado cities before we could call it but it was a great snow race right to the end between Erie, Pa, Worcester, Mass, Syracuse, New York and some of the cities from Colorado who made a late charge at the end.

A lot of back and forth between Erie, Worcester and Syracuse but Syracuse, NY was able to get some late snow, I think about a foot if my memory serves me right (it normally doesn’t so beware) to jump into the lead and take claim to the snowiest big city for the 2012 – 2013 season. Congrats to Syracuse and all of the other cities who hung tough till the end. It was a fun snow season :)

I’ll be checking some stats tonight and hope to get at least a top 10 update in and maybe more tonight. Hey, it’s been awhile and I have to remember how to this stuff again. Hopefully NOAA, the National Weather Service hasn’t made too many changes in the off season.

Have a Great Snowy Season All and Stay Safe ;)   As Always, See Snow Drive Slow!

Not a whole lot of changes this last update which included all of the cities. Most of the snowiest cities were pretty much snow-less since the last update but with the way this snow season has gone so far it’s still too early to crown a winner in my opinion.

A few of the Colorado cities are getting some snow but I think the city to keep an eye on right now is Anchorage. Once again this season they are over their normal snowfall totals and it seems every time I check their snow stats they have more snow to add. They are still in striking distance along with Erie, PA and Worcester, MA.

The warm air was suppose to show up in the Syracuse area this week but that never happened. I didn’t look to see if Erie has gotten into the warm air yet. To sum it up I think as long as the cold air is sticking around any of the top 4 cities can keep adding to their totals. I’ll be getting the updates in as I see the snow falling and Good Luck to the cities near the top ;)

Have a Great Week Everyone :)

To be honest I don’t have a clue right now but I think it will be pretty close.  The problem is that the overnight snow stats aren’t out yet so I’ll do a quick update a bit later.  Hey, is there any new snow in Erie, PA?

I don’t think Worcester will have much to add to their snow totals but Erie may have gotten some new snow and Syracuse definitely got some decent lake effect snow last night as I am looking at it out my window right now.  The suspense is killing me though as to how much Syracuse received overnight and if Erie picked up any.  Syracuse may have gotten enough to take over the top spot from Worcester, MA who has held on to the lead for quite awhile now.

Not much info to share right now but I’ll be posting when the new NOAA snow stats come out.  Stay Tuned ;)

First Off a Happy Easter to You and Your Family From Ours :)

Erie, Pa managed to slip past Syracuse while I wasn’t paying attention. Now they are only 4.2 inches away from catching up to the snow leader Worcester, MA. Erie picked up a 1.3 inch lead over Syracuse where it has actually been sunny the last day or two.

I did just a top 20 update today and I’ll be keeping an eye on the weather and posting new totals throughout the week.

HAVE a HAPPY EASTER ALL!

Worcester continues to defend their top spot as the King of the mountain but can they stay there? Syracuse and Erie are still running flake to flake and it seems every time Syracuse tries to spread a little snow between them Erie just blows them off and closes the snow gap even tighter.

Right now Worcester’s snow lead is only 5.5 inches over Syracuse and just 5.7 inches over Erie, PA. The last couple of days here in the Syracuse area have been pretty sunny unfortunately or fortunately depending on how much you like or hate snow. Erie on the other hand has been able to pick up a few inches of fresh snow. Luckily for both cities Worcester is quiet as far as snow goes for the time being.

I’m not throwing in the shovel just yet but if I were a betting man I think I would lay the odds right now at:

Erie, PA 2 to 1
Worcester, MA 3 to 1
Syracuse, NY 3 to 1

Just a hunch. Have a Super Week Everyone ;)

Both Syracuse, NY and Erie, PA were able to pick up some snow the last couple of days to melt away a little bit of the lead Worcester, MA has. Syracuse and Erie both finally past the 100 inches of snow totals cutting the snow lead down to just over 8 inches now. Worcester did have over a foot of snowfall more before this last update. Keep in mind that there is probably more snow to add from the overnight to Syracuse and maybe Erie also. I’m loving the fact that this is still a really close snow contest this late in the season and that cold air is still in the forecast :)

Let’s talk hoops for a minute. Massachusetts must have something against me. First ya’s take the lead over Syracuse in the snow race and then one of your teams goes and knocks one of my final picks out of the NCAA Tournament. Cut me a little slack would ya Mass? Yes I’m talking about the good/great win Harvard had over New Mexico. Nothing like shredding one of your brackets on the first day of the tourney :( To be honest it’s pretty much my bad for picking New Mexico to go all the way when I haven’t even seen them play this season. No doubt my new formula that I used on that bracket is getting tossed. At least I had Georgetown on the same bracket playing New Mexico and not on my other bracket which is now my good one if you want to call it that.

That said I had Arizona losing this round so Harvard can’t hurt me on this round. I always cheer for the underdog when I can so even though you trashed on of my brackets, Go Harvard, I’m cheering for ya’s ;)   Good Luck on your brackets everyone!

OK, We did a full update of all of the cities and I’m thinking about cutting that list down quite a bit come the next update. Most likely to around 25 – 30 cities and then I’ll be able to get more full updates in. Keep in mind that right now it takes about 3 hours to get the stats together and post them all. I’ll see how it goes and look for more top 10 updates as the snow falls.

Have an Awesome Weekend Everyone and Let’s Go Orange. Syracuse Orange that is ;)

First Off Thank You Philip G. for your donation. All of the donations really do help out a lot so don’t be afraid to click on that donate button :P .

Just did a Full Update – and Sorry about the lack of updates but my grandson who is 4 1/2 months old was in town for a week and well my buddy trumps snow ;) Born in South Carolina but no doubt he will bleed Orange, Syracuse Orange that is :)

Worcester, MA continues to rule the top of the snow mountain with a pretty good lead but don’t count Erie or Syracuse out of this seasons snow contest yet. Both cities are slowly inching their way closer to Worcester’s snow totals and there is still enough cold air around for one of the cities to make a charge.

Even though it didn’t show in the stats there was a quick flip flop for second place. Yesterday Erie, PA slipped past Syracuse, NY by a couple of tenths of an inch to take over the number two spot. Well for a little while anyways. With the last update from the National Weather Service Syracuse was able to take over 2nd place again by just 1 tenth of an inch over Erie. Right now there’s a pretty good snowball fight going on for second place between the two. Snow is in the forecast so the next couple of days will be interesting.

More to come but it’s almost time for the NCAA Brackets. Good Luck!

UPDATED 3/8 8:30 AM – Just a heads up that I just posted a full update on all of the cities at http://goldensnowglobe.com/all-snowiest-us-cities/  Keep in mind that most of the snow stats don’t include the overnight snow so places like Worcester, Syracuse and so on will be going up when the official snowfall stats from the National Weather Service (NOAA) come out later in the day.  Good Luck and Good Night  ;)

The top 3 cities were just updated by NOAA and Worcester, Mass has taken the lead in the national snow contest for big cities with a population of 100,000 or more. Congrats to Worcester for making it as King of the Snow Mountain.  I do have to say that I am not surprised but I am impressed ;) Now, can you hold onto it???

Snow storm Saturn dropped enough snow on Worcester to slide them past both Erie, Pa and Syracuse, NY. WTG Worcester and I’ll have more come tomorrow. I’ll also get a new top 10 update in sometime tomorrow and perhaps a full update in.  The latest stats are;

Worcester, Mass – 86.1
Syracuse, NY  -  85.9
Erie, PA -  83.3

Have a Super Day All and Drive Safely!
