erie pa snowfall

The cold air has finally hit quite a few of the states now but it’s still the Colorado cities taking control of the national snow contest. Remember, only cities with a population of 100,000 or more are on the list.

Fort Collins, Colorado jumped ahead of Lakewood to take the top spot in the snowiest city in the US but only by a couple of snowflakes. Being the beginning of the snow season that’s about all that any of the cities are showing right now is just a few flakes here and there. A few things did stand out this last update though. Erie, Pa is now on the snowboard, Anchorage, Alaska still doesn’t have any measurable snow and a lot more cities are showing at least a trace of snow compared to the last update.

Anchorage normally would be leading right about now averaging 9.6 inches for this time in the season. Right now they are only showing a trace and aren’t even in the top 10. Remember they have been the only city since we started keeping stats to dethrone Syracuse, NY as the snowiest US city. I’m still in the process of moving but what will be cool is when I get hooked up and start watching one of my favorite shows, Gold Rush Alaska, I/We already know that they are going to have a lot better start this season and shouldn’t have to move a ton of snow before they start digging for gold ;)

Then there is that pesty Erie, Pa and I say that affectionately toward those of you from Erie :) Erie made the snow contest fun last season and were one of a couple of cities who came just inches away from taking the glory and bragging rights away from Syracuse, NY, My hometown just in case you didn’t know. Well Erie is on the snowboard now with a few tenths of an inch of snow and as always they are one of the cities that always worry me along with Worcester, Anchorage and a couple others. They should make it fun again for the new 2013 – 2014 snow season.

Another thing that caught my attention was that as of the last update we only had 12 cities showing any measurable snow or at least a trace of snow. This update we have 36 cities with at least a trace or more. I think we may be seeing a lot of lead changes this season and as always the bragging rights to snowiest big city in the US are up for grabs.

Just a heads up that we are going to be dropping a few cities out of the lineup in the next several days. It’s obvious that some of the cities don’t have a chance and we would like to get it down to around 40 – 50 cities. If you want to defend why your city should be listed here then now s the time. I’ve left a few in just because it was interesting to see that cities like Albuquerque, NM do get some snow each season but it’s getting a little too time consuming each update. I think the first 2 cities we need to drop is Worcester, Mass and Erie :) Joking of course! That said if you know of a city that isn’t listed but gets some decent snow and they are not on here then feel free to let us know. Keep in mind the population needs to be at least 100,000 as of the last census.

OK, enough for now and you all Have a Super Night and as always, “See Snow – Drive Slow” unless on a sled of course ;)

Syracuse managed to slip past Erie, Pa in what has been a back and forth snow race for the past month. As of yesterdays totals Syracuse is winning the Golden Snow Globe contest by just 4.1 inches of snowfall. Could Erie knock Syracuse from the top of the snow mountain? Hell yeah and it won’t take a whole lot to do it. Keep in mind that Worcester, Ma and Salt Lake City are right behind them on the mountain and can also jup to the top with just one little storm.

How did Erie make out today I wonder. A little snow here in the Syracuse area overnight but most of the time it was rain. Maybe another inch or two to add but that’s about it.

This was a full update and I’ll get at least a couple of top 10 updates in during the next few days seeing how it is suppose to start cooling down again ;)

The new snow stats are out and the lead has changed again.  Syracuse piled up just enough snow to push Erie, Pa down the snow mountain.  Syracuse is now the King of the snow mountain but I don’t think this will last too long.  Not if Erie and some of the other cities have a say in it.

The big news was obviously the snow storm Nemo who for some reason went from being a cute little guy that turned into a monster shark.  The North East coast get hit pretty good with Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine and other states getting pounded by Nemo.  A lot of the cities from those states also ski-jumped up the snow mountain from the bottom to near the top now.

The city I thought that had the best chance to take the lead was Worcester, Mass.  They gave it a good shot and moved into 3rd place.  Boston also jumped up quite a bit along with the cities from Connecticut.  Bridgeport went from 25 th place to 5 th in a matter of a day.  Hartford also jumped into the top 10.  Providence move way up and the list goes on and on.  Click about to see how all of the Golden Snow Globe cities did this last update.

HAve a Great Weekend All.

It’s still snowing in Erie, Pa and in Syracuse, NY. The flakes must be bigger in Erie though because they continue to be the King of the snow mountain. Erie is also adding to their lead over the rest of the cities and piled up a half a foot lead over second place Syracuse.

Make me wonder if they are doing the same thing that their Pennsylvania basketball teams have been doing to the Syracuse Orange mens basketball team. Letting them think they are in the game only to only to shut them down just enough at the end. So far Syracuse’s 3 losses are from PA teams, which were Temple, Villanova and Pittsburg. The good thing is that there is still plenty of time left in both the snow season and the basketball season :) Win or lose let’s hope it’s at least a Big East kind of season as this will be the last time most if not all play in the Big East :(

I’m curious as to which is the college basketball team that is the favorite in the Erie, Pa area???

OK, back to snow totals. This was just a top 25 snowiest city update meaning I only went 25 cities deep. The top 10 should be a safe bet as I have them now but I didn’t go down past number 25 on the list. Chances are there are a few cities below that probably have more snow than some of the other cities in the top 25. I’ll get a full update in when I have a few hours to spare.

Take care and have an awesome week everyone!!!

OK, this is going to be a quick post while waiting for the power to come back on for the Super Bowl :) I’ve been working on the stats all day off and on and it was worth it. Is there a new leader in the Golden Snow Globe contest? You know where to look to check it out.

Less than 3/10 of an inch are separating the top 2 cities right now.  Snow is suppose to be flying the rest of the week so I will keep an eye on the weather and try to get at least several top 10 updates in during the week.

Enjoy the rest of the game and let’s hope the 49ers get their act together to make the game a little more exciting ;)   Oh, and keep thinking of the numbers 9 and 8 ;)

Have a Super Week Everyone!!!
