snowiest us city

All posts tagged snowiest us city

I just finished the first 2013 – 2014 full update for the snowiest big city in the United States, population of 100,000 or more and it’s all Colorado. This kind of surprises me because normally Anchorage, Alaska has something to report by now and all they are showing is a trace of snow. Not a single flake has fallen yet here in the Syracuse, New York area and it’s the same for some of the other cities that were on the top last season.

Yup, it’s still a little early for most of us but the cold air is starting to move in and I’m guessing come the next update there will be several more cities showing some measurable snow. Right now we have only 4 cities reporting measurable snow and they are all from Colorado. Lakewood, Co is the King of the snow mountain right now with 3 inches of snow hitting the ground so far this season, followed up by Fort Collins, Denver and Pueblo, Colorado. If you remember, last season we had to drag on because the cities in Colorado had some decent snow late in the season.

If I remember right and trust me I normally don’t, the Colorado cities started off really slow and made a big push at the end of the season. Syracuse got luck last season with some late snow of their own to overtake snowy Erie, Pa and Worcester, Mass right near the end of the season. Is there a city that will dethrone Syracuse this season? After the 2012 – 2013 season I have to say yes but the question is which city will be the snowiest city in the U.S.A. for the 2013 – 2014 snow season? Do you have any favorites????

Have an Awesome Day All ;)

I kind of just want to just yell out NOOOOOOOOO but that isn’t going to stop the snow from coming and over taking the warm summer and fall days that seem to have just flied by like the snow will be flying sometime really soon :( Yup, here we go again and the contest has actually already begun. I took a peak around and sure enough some of the cities have some measurable snowfall totals and it’s mainly the Colorado cities. They were the ones who stretched the national snow contest out last season and go figure they want to get a jump start this season..

The snow contest for the 2012 – 2013 snow season was one of the closest and most exciting contest since we started up the national snow site. As always we had to wait for some of the Colorado cities before we could call it but it was a great snow race right to the end between Erie, Pa, Worcester, Mass, Syracuse, New York and some of the cities from Colorado who made a late charge at the end.

A lot of back and forth between Erie, Worcester and Syracuse but Syracuse, NY was able to get some late snow, I think about a foot if my memory serves me right (it normally doesn’t so beware) to jump into the lead and take claim to the snowiest big city for the 2012 – 2013 season. Congrats to Syracuse and all of the other cities who hung tough till the end. It was a fun snow season :)

I’ll be checking some stats tonight and hope to get at least a top 10 update in and maybe more tonight. Hey, it’s been awhile and I have to remember how to this stuff again. Hopefully NOAA, the National Weather Service hasn’t made too many changes in the off season.

Have a Great Snowy Season All and Stay Safe ;)   As Always, See Snow Drive Slow!

Not a whole lot of changes this last update which included all of the cities. Most of the snowiest cities were pretty much snow-less since the last update but with the way this snow season has gone so far it’s still too early to crown a winner in my opinion.

A few of the Colorado cities are getting some snow but I think the city to keep an eye on right now is Anchorage. Once again this season they are over their normal snowfall totals and it seems every time I check their snow stats they have more snow to add. They are still in striking distance along with Erie, PA and Worcester, MA.

The warm air was suppose to show up in the Syracuse area this week but that never happened. I didn’t look to see if Erie has gotten into the warm air yet. To sum it up I think as long as the cold air is sticking around any of the top 4 cities can keep adding to their totals. I’ll be getting the updates in as I see the snow falling and Good Luck to the cities near the top ;)

Have a Great Week Everyone :)

First Off a Happy Easter to You and Your Family From Ours :)

Erie, Pa managed to slip past Syracuse while I wasn’t paying attention. Now they are only 4.2 inches away from catching up to the snow leader Worcester, MA. Erie picked up a 1.3 inch lead over Syracuse where it has actually been sunny the last day or two.

I did just a top 20 update today and I’ll be keeping an eye on the weather and posting new totals throughout the week.

HAVE a HAPPY EASTER ALL!

First Off Thank You Philip G. for your donation. All of the donations really do help out a lot so don’t be afraid to click on that donate button :P .

Just did a Full Update – and Sorry about the lack of updates but my grandson who is 4 1/2 months old was in town for a week and well my buddy trumps snow ;) Born in South Carolina but no doubt he will bleed Orange, Syracuse Orange that is :)

Worcester, MA continues to rule the top of the snow mountain with a pretty good lead but don’t count Erie or Syracuse out of this seasons snow contest yet. Both cities are slowly inching their way closer to Worcester’s snow totals and there is still enough cold air around for one of the cities to make a charge.

Even though it didn’t show in the stats there was a quick flip flop for second place. Yesterday Erie, PA slipped past Syracuse, NY by a couple of tenths of an inch to take over the number two spot. Well for a little while anyways. With the last update from the National Weather Service Syracuse was able to take over 2nd place again by just 1 tenth of an inch over Erie. Right now there’s a pretty good snowball fight going on for second place between the two. Snow is in the forecast so the next couple of days will be interesting.

More to come but it’s almost time for the NCAA Brackets. Good Luck!

I just did a full update and the Golden Snow Globe contest just keeps getting closer with each update. Syracuse, NY continues to hold on to a slim lead to stay on top of the snow mountain but… Erie, Pa has closed the lead and are now just 3.5 inches away from them. Worcester, Mass is still hanging with the big boys and a few flakes here and there and they could easily move into first place.

Most of the other snowy cities in the US have some catching up to do but all it takes is a storm or two to change things around. I’ve been keeping an eye on the latest storm coming in from the west of the top 3 cities and being from Syracuse I don’t think I like it too much. Last I looked it is suppose to hang to the south of Syracuse. It will be interesting to see if Erie can tap into this storm at all or if it will stay south of them also. I have a feeling Erie may grab just enough snow flakes to slip past Syracuse. I’m haven’t seen yet if it is suppose to move toward Massachusetts yet??? If so Syracuse could be dropping all the way down to 3rd place on the mountain.

I left places like Baltimore, Maryland, Philly, Washington in the contest all season thinking they would do a repeat of a few years ago when they were getting in on the coastal storms but so far nothing :( That should change with this storm if it stays on the path they are predicting. Their snow stats have been pretty pathetic and this could be a chance for them to maybe at least break intot the top 50.

On another note I have been noticing a lot of visitors from Erie, Pa coming to the site from facebook. It took me awhile to figure out where they were coming from on facebook but I found out where and wanted to say thanks for mentioning the snow contest on your facebook page. If anyone is interested in Erie, Pa or from there and don’t know about their page it’s worth checking out and they have a ton of information about Erie along with a lot of great pictures and great people on there. It’s at https://www.facebook.com/#!/Erie.Pennsylvania

Have a GREAT Week Everyone ;)

Syracuse managed to slip past Erie, Pa in what has been a back and forth snow race for the past month. As of yesterdays totals Syracuse is winning the Golden Snow Globe contest by just 4.1 inches of snowfall. Could Erie knock Syracuse from the top of the snow mountain? Hell yeah and it won’t take a whole lot to do it. Keep in mind that Worcester, Ma and Salt Lake City are right behind them on the mountain and can also jup to the top with just one little storm.

How did Erie make out today I wonder. A little snow here in the Syracuse area overnight but most of the time it was rain. Maybe another inch or two to add but that’s about it.

This was a full update and I’ll get at least a couple of top 10 updates in during the next few days seeing how it is suppose to start cooling down again ;)

The snowiest city in the United States is still a tight snow race and could be right down until the last snow flake falls. Syracuse managed to get just enough snow and t wasn’t much to hold off Erie, Pa to remain King of the Snow Mountain since the last update. Worcester, Mass is still right behind the both of them and don’t count out Rochester, NY yet either. They have been slowly sneaking up on everyone the last few weeks.

One announcement to make is that a snow dance has been done in the Syracuse area :) I felt that the time was right and with the low snow totals we have so far in the Syracuse area it was well overdue also. It normally takes around 2 – 3 days for it to start having any effect on the weather so we’ll wait and see what happens. I suggest someone from Erie and the other cities also try a snow dance if you want to keep up ;) We also have a Snow God which resides in the Fairmount area which is just outside of the city and I’ve been informed that it has been awaken and the light is shining. I have a picture somewhere of it and I’ll post it if I can find it.

Keep in mind where are many weather dances and you could be putting your entire city at risk :( A few years back one of our visitors to our sister site the www.goldensnowball.com  contest decided to try a dance. Well all hell broke out when instead of heavy snow or a snowstorm, high winds hit the city of Buffalo knocking down trees and knocking out power to thousands. True story, lol. So You Have Been Warned!

Have a Great Weekend All…

Just a Heads Up - this website may be going offline for a little while after today. With costs going up with hosting and other related costs not to mention the time put into it I had to add the Pay Pal donation button on the site this season, sorry about that.  Hopefully the site won’t be down no longer than a day or two. We will try and get it back up ASAP.

I was seeing a lot of coverage on the snow that Erie has been getting so I decided to do a top 10 update. Erie, Pa received something like 16.3 inches of snow on january 21st and I was curious if they picked up enough snow to sled past Syracuse. They came close and are less than a couple of inches away from taking over the top spot on the snow mountain.

It’s been snowing a little in the Syracuse area but most of the lake effect snow bands have been hanging just miles to the north of them in places like Oswego, Fulton and other towns to the north. Those cities and town have picked up 2 feet plus of snow lucky them ;) Erie, Pennsylvania still has some decent snow in their forecast for the next few days as does Syracuse so it will be interesting to see if Syracuse can hold on or if Erie slips past them. I’ll try and keep up with it and post it here if someone knocks Da’Cuse down the mountain.

Here are some good stats that has the snowfall records for Erie, Pa broken down by the month. http://www.erh.noaa.gov/cle/climate/eri/records/eritop10snow.html
