Erie, PA continues to camp out on top of Golden Snow Globe Mountain and I’m guessing that they have been there so long they probably have a ski resort built by now :) Can Erie continue to hold on to the top spot for another month or two? No doubt all of the other top cities blew a good chance to catch up to them the last several days. Syracuse managed to melt away only 7 tenths of an inch off the lead. For the most part all of the cities have been taking a break from the snow including Grand Rapids, Buffalo and Billings who round off the top 5 snowiest big cities in the US. After a couple of days with the temps above freezing and two days in a row with the sun shining, at least Here in Syracuse, I’m thinking just give Syracuse 10 inches and let’s call it a wrap :)

Sorry about the lack of updates but I have really been letting my other work slide lately. I barely looked at my shopping websites in the last 6-8 weeks because of the snow and time spent on this site. I’m loving it though and enjoying every update I do and I am also loving the fact that the snow race is really close again this season. It could get interesting in the next week…

Warning, Shameless Plug Ahead – That said I did need to take a few days off from here to start a new project which is a new Printer Ink Cartridges Online website. It’s still in the beginning stage but I was able to get about 25 hours into it :) For any of you that purchase your printer ink online for home or for your business all I ask is that you check out the site and shop through there. The merchants give this snowman a little bit back in return for me sending buyers to their stores. You can order supplies for your printers, all in one printers, copy machines and fax machines. I’ll be adding more merchants in the next couple of days along with more coupons to help you save even more. Generic – compatible ink cartridges and laser toners are one of the best buys online and I have been personally buying mine online for about 12 years now give or take. Most if not all of the merchants I’ll be adding to the site also offer a 100% guarantee on their printer products. You can check my ink site out Here at Printer Ink Cartridges – OK, End of Shameless Plug ;)

Have an Awesome Weekend All!

Watch out all because here comes last seasons runner-up Worcester, Massachusetts charging up the snow mountain. For those of you that may not have been around the Golden Snow Globe site last season it was a super close snow race right to the very end. Unfortunately the end never came until something like May 31st because all of the Colorado cities decided to make a late charge.

If I remember correctly and trust me my memory is shot, last season Worcester held a pretty good lead come March and the battle at that time was between Erie and Syracuse fighting for second place. Syracuse looked to be out of the contest at one point but managed to get some fluke lake effect snowfall, about 10.5 inches in April which even for Syracuse is pretty much unheard of. Here was the headline on April 2nd of last season. BREAKING NEWS – Syracuse Plows Past Worcester and Erie :) Let’s hope we hear that again this season.

OK, enough rambling and the point I am trying to make, I think, is don’t count Worcester out of this seasons contest. They are battle tested and proven and the question is do they have enough snowballs left to win the snowball fight this season? Keep in mind also that Worcester, Massachusetts is one of those cities that know how to pick up any snow that is hanging around them and they almost always get in on the coastal storms.

Right now they are a ways behind the current King of the snow mountain Erie but they are climbing pretty fast. I don’t even think they were in the top 20 at the beginning of this month but have moved up to #7. So far for February and it’s not over yet Worcester has piled up 38.2 inches of new snowfall. Their total right now for the season is 77.6 inches putting them 32.9 inches over their normal total to date which on average is should only be 44.7 inches. They are also 10 inches over last seasons total snowfall for this time in the season which was 67.5 inches of snow. Yup, I would say that those of us ahead of Worcester, Mass should be watching our backs right now for their sneak attack ;)

Have an Awesome Night All ;)

Syracuse, New York continues to slide down the snow mountain dropping another spot this update. Erie, PA has to be loving it considering the big comeback that Syracuse made at the very end of the season to go ahead of both Erie and Worcester, Massachusetts. Erie also gained some snow on the rest of us since the last update :(

Grand Rapids, Michigan slipped past Syracuse for the number 3 slot on the mountain knocking Da’Cuse down to number 4. All of the top 10 snowiest cities managed to stay in the top 10 this round. That could change come tomorrow with it snowing today in some of the Golden Snow Globe cities including here in the Syracuse area.

Is it snowing in your city today? How about in Erie, Buffalo, Rochester or any of the other cities? Give us an update in this post if you have a minute to let us know what’s happening in your neck of the woods ;) Taking a rough guess I’m thinking about 4 – 5 inches so far here in the Syracuse area with light snow still falling. Sure beats the cloudy, gloomy, rainy days we have been having.

Enough for now and it’s almost time for what should be a good college basketball game between Pitt and Syracuse. Good Luck Pitt but Let’s Go Orange ;)

Updated 1/4/14 - Just a heads up that I did a fast update going 20 cities deep. The reason being that I knew that Worcester and Boston, Mass still had snow to add from the storm. Sure enough, Worcester, Mass had enough snow to make it into the top 10 snowiest cities this season. Worcester got off to a slow start so far but let’s not forget how close they kept the race last season keeping up with Erie, Pa and Syracuse, NY ;) Last season was close right to the end so we may not want to worry about them just yet but we better keep an eye on them. One more nor’easter and they will be climbing the snow mountain fast ;)

——————————————————————————————-

Erie, Pa now has over six feet of snow on the season as of yesterday. Second place Syracuse, NY who has just over 4 feet of snow did manage to chip away an inch or two from Erie’s lead over them. Hey, this early in the snow season it’s all about chipping an inch at a time away. Of course come tomorrow the rest of the cities will probably take another step back from Erie. All in all it was a pretty decent storm that went by and a lot of the Golden Snow Globe cities were able to grab some of the white fluffy stuff from the sky.

There were several cities that stood out this round but I think Boston, Mass stood out the most. So far they are reporting 10.6 inches of snow for yesterday breaking a date record of 8.0 inches which dates all the way back to 1904. Way to go Boston!

There was a lot of pushing down and climbing up the snow mountain going on. All three of the Wisconsin cities (Milwaukee, Green Bay & Madison) were pushed out of the snowiest top 10 cities. Replacing them was another Pa city, Pittsburgh along with Ann Arbor, Michigan and Cleveland, Ohio. Right now we have cities from 7 different states representing the top 10 snowiest cities in the US :)

Some of the biggest movers climbing the snow mountain this update were –

Boston, Mass moved up 20 spots
Chicago, Illinois +9 spots
Indianapolis, Indiana +9
Fort Wayne, Indiana +8
Philadelphia, Pa +7

Stay Tuned and Have an Awesome Weekend and Don’t forget to root for Americas Favorite Basketball Team, The Syracuse Orange :P

Erie, Pa just keeps piling in on and now has a lead of more than a couple of feet of snow. Right now they are leading the second place city Syracuse by 25.7 inches of snow but can they hold on to that big lead? Oh, and what is up with Lake Erie? Has it frozen over yet or did you folks in Erie buy an ice breaker to keep the lake open through the winter ;)

Chances are that Syracuse and some of the other cities may be able to cut into their lead with the snow that is coming through right now. Hopefully if all goes according to plan, my plan ;) Erie’s snow will stop sometime soon and the rest of us to the East/NE will be able to chip away at the big lead they have right now. Here at my house just outside the Syracuse area it’s been coming down all day but pretty much just moderate snowfall is falling with a heavy snow squall every now and then. Right now the heavier snow on the National radar seems to be just missing Syracuse to the east. A little more shift in the winds going more northerly instead of NE could make things interesting.

What is it doing in your neck of the woods? Is it Still snowing in Erie, Pa, Buffalo, Rochester, NY or in any of the other Golden Snow Globe cities? If so let us know and thanks ;)

With the holidays over and family and friends gone for now it’s time to get back to work. I spent about 2 hours so far going through spam on both of the snow sites and probably have another hour to go. I do my best to look through the thousands of them in hopes that I don’t delete one of your comments or emails. Hopefully nothing that should be posted was deleted and if so I apologize. Stay tuned because the next couple of days will be interesting.

Have a Great Day Everyone and as always, See Snow – Drive Slow ;)

Erie, Pa has cushioned their lead with some more of the white fluffy stuff falling since the last update. I heard from a lot of people from Erie saying how hard the lake effect snow was coming down the other night. The rest of us better hope that it’s stopped by now because they have over a foot lead now on the second place city, Da’Cuse.

I know it seems like it’s Erie, Erie, Erie, Marsha, Marsha, Marsha right now but you have to be impressed with their snow totals this early in the season. Just think, they have more than double of what their normal snowfall should be for this time in the season. Right now they are at 45.0 inches of snow and counting compared to their normal of 21.1 inches of snow. What stands out the most is that last season at this time they had a whopping or make that wimpy 3.1 inches of snow. They are almost 42 inches ahead of last season at this time. WTG Erie but watch your back. We are all coming to knock you down that snow mountain ;)

Erie, Pa, one of the heavy weights when it comes to snowiest big cities better keep it up though because they are being chased right now from the great state of New York cities and they are the Big 3. Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo, NY. It’s been snowing off and on in a couple of those cities and most likely they will be adding to their snow totals.

Up to the north of Syracuse in places like Fulton, the Tug Hill area, Oswego and Watertown just to name a few have been piling up several feet of snow this past week or so. I’m sure there are a lot of the smaller cities and towns around Erie and in a couple of other states that are getting pounded also. I get a lot of complaints or comments about how much snow they get and why aren’t they in the snow contest. I respect all of you who live in those places that get hammered, with snow that is ;) and how you have to deal with it. The reason is that when the storms hit in the big cities it obviously affects a lot more people. One of the other reasons is that The National Weather service doesn’t report the snow stats for most of the smaller cities. They do for some but it would be almost impossible to get Official snow stats for most of the smaller cities. That and not to mention there would probably be a couple of hundred of them and by the time I finished the first update the season would be over. So like I mentioned, my respect kudos to all of the smaller cities and towns like Booneville, Tug Hill Oswego and so on.

Have an Awesome Night All!

First off a BIG Thanks to Robert S. for his donation to the site which I believe is the second time he has donated. Your donations do really help to offset some costs. Thanks Robert, I do appreciate it :)

Congrats to Billings, Montana retaking the lead and dropping Erie, Pa from the top of the snow mountain. If my memory serves me right which it normally doesn’t this is the second time that Billings has been on the top of the mountain. Billings, Montana had a record snowfall yesterday, 11/2/2013 picking up 6.2 inches of snow on the day breaking the old record of 4.6 dating back to 2008. Now we’ll have to wait to see if they have more snowfall to add today to cushion their lead.

Nothing else really changed in the top 10 snowiest big city lineup other than all of the other cities dropped a spot. It’s still a close snow race with Erie, Pa staying close to Billings in second place, followed by Syracuse, NY in third, Rochester and then Anchorage. So far the past champion of the 2011-2012 season Anchorage, Alaska has been pretty quiet in the Golden Snow Globe contest this season and are way behind their normal snow totals for the season. Right now they are reporting 11.2 inches of snow so far which is only half the amount of their normal snowfall this time of the year which should be 22.5 inches of snow. Let’s all hope it stays like that ;) Stay Tuned, a lot of snow season left.

Have and Awesome Week All and as always, See Snow, Drive Slow :)

Stephen and I started talking about dropping a few of the cities in the Golden Snow Globe contest and adding a couple new ones. I went through the list to see who the lightweights were and dropped 6 of the old cities from the snow mountain and added 2 new ones that Stephen suggested that now have a population over 100,000 people. One is obviously a good one because they went straight to the top and are currently the King of The Snow Mountain.

Billings, Montana which shows a population of 106,954 is now leading the snow derby showing 11.1 inches of snow so far. More than enough to slide by Anchorage, AK and Sioux Falls, SD. The other new city to the snowy city list is Rochester, Minnesota which is showing a population of 108,992 as of the last US census taken. They are starting out in 18th place in the snow derby and hopefully will be a performer also.

Dropped from the list after looking at some snow stats were 6 cities and if you’re from one of those cities don’t worry, if we see that you are getting a decent amount of snow we will definitely add you back to the list. We did leave in some cities that probably could have been dropped and we will see how it goes down the slope to decide whether to keep them in or drop them. A lot of the ones we kept in that are underperformers are the coastal cities on the East – Northeast coast. The reason being of course for the fact that Nor’easters and coastal storms seem to be hitting us quite a bit lately. I think one is possible come this week as a matter of fact. Anyways, don’t take it personally and like I mentioned if your city starts getting some decent snow just drop us a comment and we will add it back to the list.

The cities we dropped this round were (Wichita and Topeka, Kansas,) (Boise City, Idaho), (Springfield, Missouri), (Oklahoma and Tulsa, OK). Start doing the snow dances so hopefully we will be seeing you back on the list before the season is over ;)

IMPORTANT – If you see a city that gets quite a bit of snow on average each season then let us know. We want to add as much competition as possible to keep the snow contest fun like it was last season. The closer it is the more fun it is. One of the reasons for that change is that it takes anywhere from 2 – 4 hours every time I do a full update. I’d like to get it down to around 2 hours which would allow me to get in more updates during the snow season. OK, enough rambling for now ;)

Have an awesome weekend everyone and snow is in the forecast for a lot of cities. See Snow, Drive Slow ;)

I just got done doing a 3 1/2 hour full update and Almost every city in the national snowiest big city contest received some snow or at least a trace of snowfall since the last update. I think this was the most shuffling on the Golden Snow Globe snow mountain that I have seen since keeping the stats for the contest. Almost every state in the contest had at least a few snowflakes falling the last few days with a few cities making it into the top 10 as a few dropped out.

You can check out to see if your city climbed the snow mountain this update or slipped back down the mountain. My city, the great city of Syracuse was lucky they had a rope to hold onto and didn’t slide all the way to the bottom ;) Don’t count us out yet ;) Look for more updates as the snow falls.

We also have been dropping some cities from the contest and will probably drop several more as the season goes on. So far we have been keeping most of the coastal cities for the fact that the past has shown they can hold their own as long as the Coastal storms and Nor’easter’s are hitting. There was almost one lined up to hit this week but it headed out to sea instead. We are also looking for some new snowy cities to add into the Golden Snow Globe contest so feel free to suggest a city that we may be missing that gets some decent snow each season on average. So far we are researching and looking at adding Rochester, Minnesota and Billings, Montana to the contest. If you have any suggestions just leave a comment here and we will check it out. Thanks :)

We have another lead change in the National Snow contest here at the Golden Snow Globe. So far for the 2013 – 2014 season and I’m sure there will be several more to come unless a city gets a huge jump early on. There was quite a bit of shuffling this last update along with a couple of cities falling out of the top 10.

Sioux Falls, SD picked up more than enough snow with over half a foot of snow and almost doubling the snow totals of the next best snowiest city which is Salt Lake City, Utah who moved up from 7th place on the snow board to the second slot. It’s obviously way to early to even think about a winner but it should be a decent contest again this season.

Several more cities picked up some measurable snow since the last update including a couple of the favorites, Syracuse, NY and Anchorage, Alaska. So far Anchorage is the biggest under performing city with just 0.2 inches of snowfall on the season. Normally they have almost a foot of snow by now, 11.5 inches to be exact.

A couple of days ago I was hearing some rumors of a possible Nor’easter developing toward the end of this week but really haven’t heard a whole lot more about that recently so I suppose we will just have to wait and see what happens. Enough for now and I’ll be getting more updates in this season as long as there is snow to report.
