Ohio State Wins and Ohio State National Championship Clothing

Hard to believe a 3rd string quarterback could play in his third start and bring the Ohio State Buckeyes a National Championship trophy. Better yet it is the first ever college football playoff which started with four teams. Nice job Cardale Jones, ya done good ;) A big shout out to Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 246 yards

I thought for sure that the turnovers, 3 of them unforced were going to doom Ohio State but they were able to hold off Oregon on a couple of them and when they weren’t turning over the ball they it seemed like they were driving down the football field pretty easy. I have to admit that I had Ohio picked to win but the turnovers had me a little worried.

Now lets see if any of the cities from Ohio can win the National Snow Contest ;) I am pretty sure that none of the Big Oregon cities will beat any of the big cities from Ohio ;)

Warning, Shameless Plug Below ;) – Check out the new Ohio State Buckeyes championship college football gear and sports apparel, Ohio State championship t-shirts and sweatshirts. CONGRATS Ohio State and I had you picked for the last two weeks. You played a great game and showed that you deserved to be in the very first college football playoffs.

Ohio State Buckeyes National Champions – Championship Clothing and College Sports Apparel

The Oregon Ducks played a good game too but even with the Ohio State turnovers couldn’t keep up with the Buckeyes. I was impressed that Ohio States quarterback Cardale Jones play with the confidence of a QB that it normally takes at least a couple of years of full time experience on the football field to gain. WTG Cardale Jones and you played like a Heisman candidate the last two games IMO.

Congrats to the Oregon Ducks on a Great Football Season

Great College Championship Game and Congrats to Ohio State Buckeyes :)

Updated 1/10 3:00 PM – Erie, Pa is hanging tough at the top of the snow mountain still. As of this mornings update Erie has just a half of an inch snow lead over Grand Rapids, Michigan.

I took a peak at the radar and it looks like it is snowing in or at least around Grand Rapids so the afternoon update should be interesting to see if Erie can hold onto the lead ;)
———————————————

It looks like the is a good snowball fight going on between Erie, Pa and Grand Rapids, Michigan. Last seasons defending snow champs have reclaimed the Throne at the top of the snow mountain once again after Grand Rapids took it back from them with the earlier snow update. Keep an eye on Buffalo too because it looks like they are trying to make a charge up the mountain but are just falling short each time.

Erie, Pa reclaims the top spot showing 50.8 inches of snow so far for the 2014-2015 snow season. Grand Rapids is only a couple of inches behind them reporting a total of 48.7 inches this last update. Both cities have been going back and forth on the snow mountain the last couple of days. Remember that Grand Rapids, Michigan has been the King of The Golden Snow Globe mountain for most of the season.

Here are the lead changes so far give or take a day ;)

Erie, Pa 1/9/2015 – Current Leader

Grand Rapids 1/8/2015 – 1/9/2015

Erie, Pa 1/6/2015 – 1/8/2015

Grand Rapids, Michigan 11/18/2014 – 1/6/2015

Erie, Pa 11/15/2014 – 11/18/2014

South Bend, Indiana – 11/14/2014 – 11/15/2014

Anchorage, Alaska – 10/20/2014 – 11/14/2014

Buffalo, NY is keeping up pretty good now reporting 44.3 inches on the season. It will be interesting to see how much more snow will be added to the snow totals for these cities come the next update. I think Erie may be looking pretty good for the near future but remember I’m clueless and normally wrong :)

South Bend, Indiana slipped past both Billings, Montana and Syracuse, NY this last update so keep an eye on South Bend too. It looks like they are ready to get into the snowball fight ;) My Syracuse has some kind of snow net over them still so could someone please cut a whole in it so that Syracuse can play too. Stay Tuned!

Have a Great Night Everyone and as Always, See Snow – Drive Slow….

1/7 11 AM – Put it in the snow books because it’s official now. Erie, Pennsylvania has taken the lead in the Golden Snow Globe National Snow Contest ;)

Erie, Pa slipped past Grand Rapids, MI when all of the snowflakes were tallied up at the end of the day yesterday. Right now only half an inch separates the two for the top spot on the snow mountain. Snow is predicted for a lot of the snowiest cities today so it should just keep getting better ;)

Grand Rapids actually took the lead away from defending Champs Erie right around November 18th so I guess this is payback and payback is a Batch, a batch of snow falling on Erie that is ;) WTG Erie and it will be interesting to see how long you can hold onto the lead.. So far there have been 5 lead changes from 4 different cities which are below.

Anchorage, Alaska – 10/20/2014 – 11/14/2014

South Bend, Indiana – 11/14/2014 – 11/15/2014

Erie, Pa 11/15/2014 – 11/18/2014

Grand Rapids, Michigan 11/18/2014 – 1/6/2015

Erie, Pa 1/6/2015 – Current Leader

Stay Tune for a late day update and drive careful everyone!
—————————————————–
1/7 2:00 AM - IMPORTANT - The new update was done at 2:00 am and not all of the cities were showing new snow stats at that time. Grand Rapids was reporting snow stats as was Erie, Pa. Erie has indeed slid past Grand Rapids with the snow totals that were being reported for yesterday. Come morning who knows ;)

Buffalo, NY and Billings, Montana were not showing new snow stats at 2 AM so both of those cities could take the lead. I will get another update in sometime in the morning (Late Morning) so stay tuned and Good Night ;)

First as always a Big Thanks to Thomas R. for your donation to the website. I truly appreciate you taking the time. Thanks Thomas :)
————————————————-
OK, it was fun watching Billings, Montana climb the snow mountain the last week or so but enough that’s enough snow now. Now you are messing with my home town Syracuse, New York ;) I suppose I may as well cheer you on now seeing how you just passed Syracuse and it looks like you are still climbing the snow mountain. OK, Might as well go all the way to the top to make things exciting and I think we are well overdue for a change of the throne. No offense to Grand Rapids of course but there haven’t been a whole lot of lead changes this season.

So far there have only been 4 leaders in the national snow contest for the 2014 – 2015 snow season. Out of the 4 leaders Grand Rapids has by far been sitting at the throne at the top of the snow mountain the longest. That said the snow contest has been close all season long with just a few inches separating some of the top snowiest cities in the U.S..

Here are the cities that have led so far this season and when they held the lead. Keep in mind the dates are give or take a day depending on when an update was done during the snow season.

Anchorage, Alaska – 10/20/2014 – 11/14/2014

South Bend, Indiana – 11/14/2014 – 11/15/2014

Erie, Pa 11/15/2014 – 11/18/2014

Grand Rapids, Michigan 11/18/2014 – Current Leader

Billings Montana continues to move up in the National Snowiest Big City Contest with a population of 100,000 or more and has just jumped another couple of spots. Billings just slid past Syracuse and Buffalo, NY to take the number 3 slot in the contest and from reading around there may still be more snow on the way for them. There was quite a bit of shuffling around with a lot of the cities adding some snow to their totals the last couple of updates.

Sioux Falls, South Dakota has moved up quite a bit the last few days and broke a date record yesterday picking up another 5.0 inches of snow breaking an old record of 3.9 inches on the day set back in 1951. WTG Sioux Falls, SD :)

Have a Great Day Everyone and Stay Safe – See Snow – Drive Slow unless you’re on a sled of course ;)

First off, sorry about the lack of posts lately. I have been able to get a lot of updates in but with the Holidays and trying to keep up my shopping sites it’s been tough finding the time to blog. I have been able to get at least one update in each day and well lets face it, it’s been a pretty boring snow season so far except for those that had that those crazy amounts of snow just outside of the Buffalo area.

I just got a full update in and will try to get at least a Top 25 update in later. Billings, Montana has finally decided to play with us and join the snowball fight. They managed to move into the Top 5 this last update picking up 6 inches of snow since the last update. It will be interesting to see if they have more to add later in the day.

It’s looking like the cold air is getting ready to move in after this little warm up slips by today which hopefully means SNOW :) The Golden Snow Globe contest is really close and looking at the top 25 I think most of the cities that are in the top 25 still have a shot at winning this season. There is still a lot of snow season left whether you/we like it or not…

Grand Rapids has been the King of the Snow Mountain for just about the entire 2014 – 2015 snow season. I think they have held the lead since something like around November 17th when they pushed last seasons snow champs Erie, Pa down the mountain. So far every time one of the cities makes a move to the top of the mountain Grand Rapids has been able to pick up just enough snow to fend us off. WTG Grand Rapids but I think your days are numbered ;)

This week and probably starting tonight things should start getting interesting again with the colder air moving in. Hopefully it will get all of our Lake Effect Machines cranking up and get the snow contest cranking too. I was just thinking how early the snow started falling this season in a lot of places and then pretty much just slowed right down. I suppose the one good thing is it hasn’t been anywhere near as cold as it was last season when that Polar Vortex overstayed it’s welcome.

Have a Great Day All and Stay Tuned!

First, a Big Thank You Cherie B. for your donation.  As always I deeply appreciate you taking the time :)

Updated 1/1/2015 7 PM – Congrats to Grand Rapids, Michigan for ending 2014 as the King of the Snow Mountain and starting the new year, 2015 with the lead ;)

Grand Rapids has been quiet just like most of the other cities lately but when they see another city trying to sneak up on them they find a way to get Mother Nature to sneeze over them and give them just enough snow to stay in the lead. I thought Buffalo was going to take the top spot but Grand Rapids managed to get just enough snowflakes. The same pretty much goes for Buffalo and Erie, Pa protecting their spots on the snow mountain. They both keep getting just enough to fend off any snowball attacks. Loving how close the race is so far and some of the lower cities are also sneaking up a little at a time. Stay Tuned ;)

I just wanted to say Thanks to all of you, both new to the snow site and to those of you who visit our fun snow contest season after season. Obviously if it wasn’t for you the National Snowiest Big City Contest wouldn’t be any fun. I would also like to Thank the media who continues to have fun with the snow contest year after year and help spread the word around about it. A Big Thanks to All of you for the fun, the comments, the emails and the donations. It keeps it fun and helps pass the winter months by.

We have also had several donations to the snow site through the years that help out a lot with expenses and they also offset the time that is put into the website. So far this season I figure close to 250 hours have been put into keeping the site updated. It does pull me away from my livelihood websites a little but believe me it’s a nice break and something I really love doing BTW and love seeing the new snow stats just as much as most of you do. Words can’t express how much I appreciate those of you for taking the time to make donations to the site. No this isn’t a solicitation, just a big Thanks ;)

Below are a few statistic that I found interesting in watching the National snow site grow. Keep in mind that these stats are for the entire year and not for the snow seasons.  Also keep in mind that this was one of the slowest Decembers in awhile and if it was like last season we may have hit close to a quarter of a million visitors this year :)

Year          Unique Visitors            Total Visitors        Visitors Page Views
—–               —————                 ———–                  ——————–
2011                13,384                        20,101                      58,758
2012                51,916                        78,722                    227,728
2013              214,338                      327,234                    644,188
2014              379,395                      634,557               1,427,4944

The media has also played a Huge part in getting word out to people that have never even heard of the national snow contest, The Golden Snow Globe so a Big Thanks to all of you. There are too many to name (OK, Remember :( ) but there have been many articles since the snowiest big city in the US contest started back in the 2009 – 2010 season. Some of the papers and sites that come to mind are Syracuse.com and the Post Standard in Syracuse, The media from both Erie and Buffalo, Erie, Pa Life on Facebook, cnycentral.com and Mike Brookins, The Washington Post, USA Today and many others. A few of the radio stations including WMCE.FM, 88.5 in Erie thanks to Captain Dan Geary and that wild and crazy guy in Billings, Montana on The Big J Show ;) There are so many more that I will have to look up and Thanks.

The last I looked the most visitors last year (season) came from Erie, Pa and I am happy that a lot of you from Erie and posted comments and I was able to make some online friends from Erie and all across the country :) Of course something about Erie holding the lead and winning last season could have something to do with that stat ;) One thing that I noticed last month if the stats were right was that The Golden Snow Globe website was ranked in the top 1000 websites visited by residents of Erie, Pa. I think with something like over half a billion sites online that was pretty cool and WTG Erie

Syracuse was second in the amount of visitors that visited the National Snow site thanks to the articles put out by Sean Kirst, Glenn Coin from Syracuse.com and the Post and also a big thanks to CNYCentral.com in Syracuse. I believe my good friends to the west of me Buffalo had the third most visitors to the site. Tens of thousand of visitors from across the United States and also from service people stationed in other countries checking to see how their home towns are doing in the winter.

I’ll be tweaking this post to add more of the media that have helped make this a fun, successful site in the near future…

Thanks again everyone and Have a Super Happy New Year which is hopefully filled with plenty of snow ;)

My family has always been about spreading tradition to different generations and it’s what I love the most about the Christmas holidays. I love watching our family coming together and sharing the same traditions that has gone on in our family for many decades.

I think this is one of the reasons I love this song so much. Two different generations so far apart and two different cultures so far apart that come together for the holidays.

It also brings to mind another favorite song by John Lennon, Imagine. Wouldn’t it be nice if it wasn’t just the for holidays and was year round that all of us could come togehter across the globe. JMO!

From my family to yours we wish you a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and what ever it is that you celebrate during this time of the season. For myself and my family it’s Merry Christmas!

Enjoy the time spent with your family my friends and have a Very Merry Christmas ;)

Syracuse is slowly sneaking up towards the leaders a few tenths of an in at a time. Grand Rapids, Michigan, Buffalo and Erie, Pa may want to start getting prepared and start making some snowballs for when Syracuse makes a run for the top of the snow mountain ;)

This last update I changed the snow stats that you see on the far right to give us an idea of how we all are doing compared to last season. Normally I have what the average snowfall totals should be to date. I changed it over to how much snow each of the cities had at this time last season. No doubt Erie, Pennsylvania, last seasons snow champs stands out the most. This time last season Erie had just over 4 feet of snowfall already. It’s probably a good thing that a decent lake effect snow event earlier in the season missed them or they would probably be close to that again right now.

Right now we have 4 cities in the snowiest big city contest that are within less 4 inches of each other. Grand Rapids is still the King and has been for most of the season so far but they have been pretty quiet the last several days. Syracuse is just a little more than an inch away from pushing Erie down the snow mountain a slot. Of course one decent lake effect event in any of these cities could give them a decent lead.

Updated 12/11 7:30 PM - Lots of changes in the top 5 snowiest cities in the US. Buffalo continues to move up and Erie slipped down a spot on the snow mountain to #3. Grand Rapids continues to wear the crown as the King of the Mountain at the top but I think their snow days are numbered ;)

Both Erie, Pa and Buffalo, NY are less than a couple of inches though of taking over the top spot from Grand Rapids. Syracuse and Rochester, New York round out the top 5 snowiest cities so far for the 2014 – 2015 snow season. I have a feeling that we may have a new leader come tomorrow morning. Any guesstimates on which city will lead come the next update :)
———————————————–

Updated 12/11 Noon - Grand Rapids, Michigan and Erie, Pa have held off the cities from New York. So far that is ;) Syracuse, NY managed to snow into the number 3 spot on the snow mountain passing Buffalo, NY but both Buffalo and Syracuse have gained on the Top 2 snowiest cities. Rochester, NY also continues to add to their snow totals moving them up a bit.

Syracuse is just a little more than an inch of snow away from taking the number 2 spot from Erie. Stay tuned because the overnight snow stats haven’t been reported yet by The National Weather Service so there will be more changes come the next update later on in the day. I think either Syracuse or Buffalo will hold the number 2 spot before the day is over. I also think Grand Rapids is still safe but be worried my friends in Erie, Be very worried ;) Stay Tuned!
————————————————————

Updated 12/10 8 PM – It’s snowing in Syracuse, New York and they are still climbing the snow mountain and Rochester is on the move too. Part 2 of snow storm Damon is has been dropping snow on Da’Cuse today and it looks like Rochester is getting in on it also. So far as of yesterday Syracuse is showing close to 8 inches of new snowfall and Rochester is showing a few inches.

Syracuse has slid into 4th place in the National snowiest big city contest and Rochester, NY has moved into the top 10. It may be time for Erie, Pa to start making some snowballs to try and hold back Syracuse from taking the number 2 slot away from them. I think Grand Rapids, Michigan is probably safe for now unless the storm starts up some lake effect snow when it pulls out of the area. Gonna be interesting come the next update :)
————————————————-

Well the snow is finally falling in CNY and it looks like Rochester may be getting in on the fun and maybe Buffalo too. The roads are slick so take it slow. Because of the temperatures the snow got a later start than I think was expected so we’ll have to wait and see how this blast of snow helps out the cities in New York.

I don’t see Syracuse climbing to the top but they may have a shot at climbing up to the top 5 slot on the snow mountain. I’ll post updates as they are posted by The National Weather Service. I just got an update in for all of the snowiest cities and will get at least a top 25 update in later today.

Any snow in your neck of the woods???

While the top 5 snowiest cities in the United States were sleeping it was a good time for a lot of the other cities to make a move ;) The top 5 are Grand Rapids, Michigan, Erie, Pa, Buffalo, NY, Cleveland, Ohio and South Bend, Indiana.

Nah, didn’t happen and only 2 cities in the Golden Snow Globe contest moved up this last update. All of the snowy cities are taking a little break but I see that snow is in the forecast for some of the cities so that could change. Grand Rapids continues to hold on to the lead by just a little more than a handful of snow over second place Erie, Pa and last seasons snow champs.

Grand Rapids has held the lead I believe since they pushed Erie, Pa off the top of the snow mountain right around November 17th give or take a day ;) Erie, Pa slipped into the lead although a short lived lead around November 15th taking the top spot from South Bend, Indiana.

It was pretty unusual to see some of the cities over a foot of snow that early in the season. Erie missed out on some decent lake effect snow that was suppose to hit them a few weeks back otherwise they would probably have a decent lead on a lot of us. Grand Rapids has had steady snowfall for the last few weeks keeping them on the top of the snow mountain. Keep it going Grand Rapids because a lot of cities will be trying to push you down the mountain sometime soon ;)

Have a Great Night Everyone :)
