The new snow stats are out and the lead has changed again.  Syracuse piled up just enough snow to push Erie, Pa down the snow mountain.  Syracuse is now the King of the snow mountain but I don’t think this will last too long.  Not if Erie and some of the other cities have a say in it.

The big news was obviously the snow storm Nemo who for some reason went from being a cute little guy that turned into a monster shark.  The North East coast get hit pretty good with Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maine and other states getting pounded by Nemo.  A lot of the cities from those states also ski-jumped up the snow mountain from the bottom to near the top now.

The city I thought that had the best chance to take the lead was Worcester, Mass.  They gave it a good shot and moved into 3rd place.  Boston also jumped up quite a bit along with the cities from Connecticut.  Bridgeport went from 25 th place to 5 th in a matter of a day.  Hartford also jumped into the top 10.  Providence move way up and the list goes on and on.  Click about to see how all of the Golden Snow Globe cities did this last update.

HAve a Great Weekend All.

Updated 7:30 PM -  Just another heads up that a beer has been cracked open, the fire is crackling, the dog is by my feet and the new snow update has already started.  OK, I really don’t have a fire place :)  Come to think about it I have no dog either.  Guess it’s just me, a bottle of Bud and some snow stats…..Should be posted by 9:00 PM

—————————————————

I’m as anxious as I know a lot of you are to see how all of the cities did with this last blast and with snow storm Nemo.  The snow stats for most of the cities snowfall totals for yesterday are out but the overnight stats aren’t.

Remember it take about 3 hours give or take to do a complete update here.  If I do one now it won’t be the real totals because the stats are just for yesterday.  I will do a full update a little later which should have most of the cities current snow totals up to date other than where it is still snowing.  Check back sometime later and we should hopefully have an update for you.

I’m curious as to how all of the cities effected by snow storm Nemo are doing.  It’s looking like the states on the coast are going to get what the experts have been saying.

Any snow where you live?  I think from 4 pm on all snow is suppose to break out.  Here in the Syracuse area just a few flakes falling so far.  I’ll update this as the day goes on.  Just post a comment as to what’s happening in your neck of the woods and I’ll post it on here :)

Or should that say that the snow storm Nemo will be finding the North East. There is a storm brewing and if everything turns out like they are saying this storm could be a game changer for several of the cities in the Golden Snow Globe contest.  Can Erie, Pa get enough snow to stay King of The Snow Mountain?

So far from what I have been reading and watching on the weather channel it looks like some of the cities in Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut and other states may be getting pounded pretty good. Winter storm warnings have and are being posted for a lot of the cities and I’m hearing blizzard mentioned quite a bit. It will be interesting to see which city can cash in with snow storm Nemo.  I’m guessing Worcester, Mass may move the closest to the top of the snow mountain :)

Keep in mind that if this storm does pan out, take it seriously. Jess who posted a comment can tell you how fast 3 – 4 inches of snow an hour can stop traffic dead in it’s tracks. That’s including those of us who are use to driving in heavy snow. In other words if this storm does happen, take the day off and stay off the roads.

Stay safe everyone and if you See Snow – Drive Slow, unless you’re on a sled of course. Look for updates as the numbers come in from the National Weather Service. You can check out your forecast using the link below and you can also see the warnings for your area by picking your state in the drop down under the map.  http://www.weather.gov/

It’s still snowing in Erie, Pa and in Syracuse, NY. The flakes must be bigger in Erie though because they continue to be the King of the snow mountain. Erie is also adding to their lead over the rest of the cities and piled up a half a foot lead over second place Syracuse.

Make me wonder if they are doing the same thing that their Pennsylvania basketball teams have been doing to the Syracuse Orange mens basketball team. Letting them think they are in the game only to only to shut them down just enough at the end. So far Syracuse’s 3 losses are from PA teams, which were Temple, Villanova and Pittsburg. The good thing is that there is still plenty of time left in both the snow season and the basketball season :) Win or lose let’s hope it’s at least a Big East kind of season as this will be the last time most if not all play in the Big East :(

I’m curious as to which is the college basketball team that is the favorite in the Erie, Pa area???

OK, back to snow totals. This was just a top 25 snowiest city update meaning I only went 25 cities deep. The top 10 should be a safe bet as I have them now but I didn’t go down past number 25 on the list. Chances are there are a few cities below that probably have more snow than some of the other cities in the top 25. I’ll get a full update in when I have a few hours to spare.

Take care and have an awesome week everyone!!!

OK, this is going to be a quick post while waiting for the power to come back on for the Super Bowl :) I’ve been working on the stats all day off and on and it was worth it. Is there a new leader in the Golden Snow Globe contest? You know where to look to check it out.

Less than 3/10 of an inch are separating the top 2 cities right now.  Snow is suppose to be flying the rest of the week so I will keep an eye on the weather and try to get at least several top 10 updates in during the week.

Enjoy the rest of the game and let’s hope the 49ers get their act together to make the game a little more exciting ;)   Oh, and keep thinking of the numbers 9 and 8 ;)

Have a Super Week Everyone!!!

It’s February 1st, time to see the results for January! It was an interesting end to the month, I’ll have more on that below the table. As a reminder, sleepers are in italics.

Worcester, MA 7.3 Minneapolis, MN 4.6
Newark, NJ 1.4 Boston, MA 5.0
Total 15.45 Total 13.55

I’m always amazed at how quickly things can change. On the 1/27 update, neither of our team totals reached 60 inches…but both of us hit over 80 for the month.

Now on to February. Pat and I set our rosters earlier, and here are our starters…
Pat:
Buffalo, NY
Erie, PA
Syracuse, NY
Worcester, MA
Newark, NJ

Pat’s going regional here, as all five starters are in the northeast. Also to keep in mind: Fort Collins, Green Bay and St. Paul still have to start at least once, while Buffalo, Erie and Syracuse must go on the bench once. Both sleepers still need to be starting one more time. Pat also has the “2 sleeper” option available, which would give him an extra starter in either March or April.

Steve:
Anchorage, AK
Cleveland, OH
Rochester, NY
Salt Lake City, UT
Boston, MA
South Bend, IN

I’m going with a more spread out look with half of my starters outside the northeast. I’m also using my “2 sleeper” option this month, giving me the extra starter for February. Denver, Des Moines and Minneapolis still need to start, while Anchorage, Rochester and Salt Lake City still need to be benched. South Bend has started the 2 months required for a sleeper while Boston still needs to start once more.

What cities will be the big snow getters this month?

Hey, have a great weekend everyone and enjoy the Super Bowl!

I just did a top 25 update and there is a major change once again in the top 10. Who is in the lead, who dropped, who moved up??? All good questions ;) Erie Pa was able to hold on to the lead by less than 1 inch of snow. It was Syracuse once again sliding down the snow mountain and Salt Lake City taking over the number 2 spot.

With the race being this close I’m going to try to get at least a top 10 update in about every day or so. Remember it takes about 3 hours for the full update which I don’t have everyday. This update I did go down 25 spots so we’ll call it a top 25 update. Keep in mind though that because I didn’t update any of the cities snow stats after number 25 which is South Bend, that there may be some cities below the top 25 with higher totals. Does that make sense :( I am confident though about the top 10.

So congrats to Erie, pa on holding on to the top spot by about a snowflake or two :)

Oh, on another note if you like the site just look for that little donate button. It takes you to Pay Pal where you can donate a couple bucks if you would like to help us offset the costs of the site and to maybe buy me a soda pop or two for the time put into the site. If not, that’s OK too because it’s fun keeping the site up.

Have a Great Night Everyone :)

Erie, Pennsylvania has taken the lead in the snowiest city in the US contest (pop-100,000 or more) plowing past Syracuse, New York.  I could be wrong but I think this is the first time since the Golden Snow Globe contest started that Erie, Pa has been on top.

Erie along with Syracuse is one of the snowiest big cities in the country on average and they finally have some bragging right to go with the snow.  Now the question is can they hold on to the top spot on the snow mountain?  It’s still pretty close with some of the cities that are in the top 10 right now.

Syracuse is right behind them on the snow trail along with Salt Lake City, Utah, Spokane and Anchorage.  Going down to around the top 20 or so, all of those cities are just a storm or two away from sledding toward the top of the mountain.  I’m loving that it’s a close contest so far with none of the snowy cities running away with the lead.

Some of the snowiest states this last update were the obvious Pennsylvania along with Michigan and Ohio.  Pittsburgh, Pa seems to have a snow groove going too slowly climbing their way up the snow mountain ;)

As for Syracuse this hasn’t been a good weekend for them and Pennsylvania hasn’t been nice to them.  First Villanova knocking off their #3 ranked basketball team and now Erie knocking them out of first pace in the snow contest.  I could say more but I won’t for the fact that I am from Syracuse and it probably wouldn’t be anything nice ;)

I’m joking of course and congrats to Erie on taking the lead and congrats to Villanova on a well played game.  See ya’s in the Big East Tournament ;)   Have a Great Week Everyone ;)

With the first month almost wrapped up in the Fantasy Snowfall contest, here’s another update. As a reminder, sleepers are in italics.

The game changing performance right now is Erie, PA with over 2 feet of snow this month. That changed what has been a close race into what appears to be a blow out for Pat. Of course, there still is over 3 months left in the contest, and with each of us needing to start and bench each city at least once, things could get interesting through the season. The one thing going for me? My sleepers are outperforming Pat’s. I might need to activate my “2 sleeper” option in February.

Speaking of February, the next update will be then, showing the final results for the month and the new lineups for both Pat and myself.
