Live Eagle Cam, Harriett & M15 Baby Eagles

Are any of you following the eagles Harriett, M15, and their eaglet on the live eagle cam out of Florida? I’m sure I’m not the only one who has been watching the live Eagle cam the last few days. I love this kind of stuff and it’s so amazing to watch it all live. A glimpse into nature that most of us don’t get to see enough of.

I have been seeing a lot of supposedly live cams on Facebook of the eagles in Florida but several of them end up just being recordings and aren’t live cams. So I found the link from the sponsors of the live cameras which is Pritchett Real Estate out of Florida and decided to add the live Eagle Cam to the site so that we know it’s live.

A big Thank You to Pritchett Real Estate for doing and sharing the live eagle cam with all of us. Enjoy and Warning, it’s addictive. Has the second eagle egg hatched yet ;)

Watching the Live Eagle Camera in Florida

You should have two choices of views on the live Eagle cams in Florida. If you scroll over the video once you start the live camera you will see an arrow pointing in both directions. If you click on that it will give you the option of watching the Eagles with the Eaglet and the egg close up or a choice of a wide view of what is going on around the Eagles nest.

Sometimes the wide view during the daytime will show the eagle that isn’t in the nest just hanging around and keeping an eye on the nest. I prefer the close up of the baby eagle (Eaglet) and the egg but that’s up to you. All in all, it’s as cool as it can get watching our nations birds in their natural habitat :)

Fun Fact: The Bald Eagle. The American bald eagle was adopted as the national bird symbol of the United States of America in 1782. The bald eagle (Haliaeetus Leucocephalus) was chosen for its majestic beauty, great strength, long life, and because it’s native to North America.

Storm and Lake Effect Snow 11/21/2016

It’s still snowing pretty good right now and there are several travel advisories ou so check with your NWS or local meteorologists for the latest weather reports.

Here is a recent look at the NWS radar at around 2:00 PM today. It looks like a mix of some pretty intense lake effect snow bands coming off of Lake Ontario

  • along with some snow falling still from the snow storm. Look how far south they are reaching.

Lake Effect Snow and Snow Storm Argos

The Winter snow storm that has been named Argos by TWC has been dropping a lot of snow in the Upstate and Central New York areas along with some pretty gusty winds. After reading around I am seeing some reports of snow totals approaching close to 3 feet of snow.

According to some tweets on Twitter and one by Carolyn Yerdon who keeps everyone up to date with the snow totals in Redfield, New York, they are up to about 32 inches and the snow is still falling.

Stay tuned for another update later this evening when the new snow stats are reported by our NWS :) As always, if you See Snow – Drive Slow! Of course, if you are on a sled, go for it! Have a Great Day everyone!

  • Anchorage, Alaska Now Leads National Big City Snow Contest

Anchorage, AK received 0.8 inches of new snow to take the lead in the Golden Snow Globe snow contest. WTG Anchorage! :)

Billings, Montana started the 2016-2017 snow season off in early October picking up 3.0 inches of snow. Billings, MT has held the top spot on the snow mountain up until Anchorage received this snow.

There are 5 cities with measurable snow so far this season and several other reporting a trace of snow on the season.

Anchorage, Alaska Starts Their 2016-2017 Snow Season

Anchorage, Alaska has received 2.6 inches of snow the last couple of days so far to start off their snow season. According to the National Weather Service.  The average snowfall to date for Anchorage is 5.6 inches.

I was able to get a full update in early today, Monday, for all of the other cities.  So far as of the last update, Billings and Anchorage are the only cities with any measurable snow for the 2016-2017 snow season.  Billings, Montana started off this season’s Golden Snow Globe contest with 3 inches of snow.  It will be interesting to see if Anchorage can slip past Billings and will be interesting to see if any other cities receive any measurable snow this week.

As of this last update, there are about 35 cities that are behind their average snowfall for today’s date. Meaning that on average about 35 of the big cities with a population of 100,000 or more have at least a tenth of snow at this time in the season.

Golden Snow Globe Winter Outlook Forecast Soon

I’m leaning toward a snowier than average season for most of the cities this season. Stay tuned for the long-awaited, highly anticipated Golden Snow Globe winter outlook forecast that will be coming soon. You know, the only forecast that is totally made up but is accurate about zero percent of the time. It’s coming soon :)

Click Here for the current snowfall update! Have a Super week all ;)

Billings, Montana Starts The Big City Snow Contest

Let the 2016-2017 snow games begin :) The National Weather Service is reporting as of the 4:00 PM update that Billings, Montana has received 3.0 inches of snow so far today, October 11th.

I have been watching the snow map that shows where it has been snowing the last week or so and checking some of the states that were showing a little snowfall the last couple of weeks. Sure enough, Billings is on the snow board as of today. I just noticed this as I was checking tonight and I was just able to get an update in also.

Billings Montana Only Big City With Snow

Right now it looks like Billings is the only city with measurable snow as of the last update by the NWS. I’ve been watching the snow move down to the US from Canada but up until today it has been missing the cities in the snow contest and has been hitting the higher elevations. Here is a link to the snow map which is worth taking a look at.

    US Snow Map From 10/7 – 10/11

    Snow in Billings, Montana.

    http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/snow-and-ice/snow-cover/us/20161007-20161011

I keep hearing and reading about some places in the United States getting some decent snow already. Right now it seems like places that are in the higher elevations. though.

Below is a map of snowfall from the last two days. The snow that has fallen from September 12th and 13th. So far I am still just seeing a trace of snow for a few of the big cities in the Golden Snow Globe contest but I’m starting to think that this season may start a little sooner than normal.

This map shows that measurable snow fell in Montana and in Wyoming. I also just looked at the 7-day snow map and that shows that some snow fell in Indiana. Snow in Indiana already? I’ll have to research that.

Click Here for the NOAA Snow Map

Anyways, it’s a pretty cool map that shows estimates of how much snow has fallen and you can go back to the last 7 days. It also shows what the current depth is in different parts of the country. Stay Tuned :)

A Trace of Snow in Pueblo, Colorado Springs, and Omaha

Is anyone ready to get the snow season going yet? I’m guessing only a few of you with winter toys are ready but believe it or not some cities in the Golden Snow Globe contest are already showing a trace of snow. Hey, I’m just the messenger ;)

I figured I would do a reset of all of the snow stats from last season, the 2015-2016 snow season, after reading about a few of the smaller cities receiving measurable snowfall in parts of the US. I’m pretty sure this is the earliest I have ever done an update on the snow site since the Golden Snow Globe snow contest began back in the 2009-2010 season.

Anyways, none of the Big cities are showing measurable snowfall yet but there are a few cities that are showing a trace. Remember, measurable snow is a tenth of an inch or more. There are however several that are showing a trace of snow including a couple that I’m not too sure about but the National Weather Service is reporting it.

So far Omaha, Nebraska, Pueblo and Colorado Springs, Colorado are showing a trace of snow for the new 2016-2017 snow season. There are a few more that I am hesitant to add to the list right now. The new season starts on July 1st and ends on June 30th. Normally, I start looking at the cities sometime in October so if I don’t see any snow being reported chance are there won’t be an update for awhile :)

OK, believe it or not, El Paso, Texas is showing a trace of snow which I believe they (Supposedly) received on August 21st. The only problem I am having is that on Aug 21st, the high temp was 86 and the low 63. Does Hail count? Amarillo, TX, and Topeka, KS are also showing a trace of snow so far on the season.

A big WOW to seeing those stats in the NWS snow stats. Looking at the temps in El Paso around that time, hard to believe, so for now, I am going to leave them at zero and out of the contest for now. Hopefully, one of you more knowledgeable than me (Ha, like you exist, j/k :P ) can explain to me if I am wrong for leaving these cities out.

A Couple of Fun Snow Facts Per the National Weather Service

Here a few of the snow stats that caught my eye while doing this update.  This update was done on 9/8/2016

    * Fort Collins, Colorado on average has 0.1 inches of snow this time in the season.

    * Billings, Montana’s normal snowfall to date on average is 0.1 inches of snow.

    * September 3rd, 1961 Denver. Co received 4.2 inches of snow which is the highest to date for this time of the season.

Enjoy the rest of the summer all and I’ll be seeing you all soon. Let’s hope not too soon, though ;)

Baltimore, Maryland Moved Into Top 25 Big City Snow Contest

Well hello all, are ya’s missing the snow yet? No need to get nervous yet and as far as I know none of the big cities have received any measurable snow for the new 2016-2017 snow season. I just wanted to share an adjustment that I came across from the NWS that lowered the totals for Newark, New Jersey’s snow totals dropping them out of the Top 25. Sorry Newark.

National Weather Service Correct Newark, New Jersy’s Snow Totals

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that I did a double check on all of the snow stats for the 2015-2016 snow season and there were a few adjustments from The National Weather Service. The only one that made a difference in the line-up was that Newark, New Jersy had their snow totals adjusted downward which dropped Newark out of the Top 25 snowiest cities in the US.

That moved Baltimore, Maryland which was in 26th place into the Top 25 snowiest Big city contest for the 2015-2016 season at number 25 on the snow mountain. So Congrats to Baltimore for making it into the Top 25 :)

When I wrapped up the Golden Snow Globe contest back in May Newark, New Jersey was reporting 3.4 inches of snowfall according to the National Weather Service. When I just did a final check for all of the cities snowfall totals the NWS was reporting only 32.8 inches of snow for last season. Unfortunately for Newark, with the National Weather Service melting away 3.6 inches off the totals, that was enough to drop Newark down to the 26th spot on the Golden Snow Globe snow mountain.

Click Here for The Top 25 Snowiest Cities in the United States

If anything changes I will post it and again, Congrats to Baltimore for being one of the Top 25 snowiest Big cities in the country. Have a great Summer all and see ya’s in the Fall ;)

Alaska’s Bear Cam Live at Brooks Falls – Katmai National Park

Explore has a really cool live cam of the bears at Brooks Falls at the Katmai National Park in Alaska. What’s cool about this live bear cam in Alaska is that since I have been watching, it has been pretty active with several bears on the cam along with what I am guessing are Salmon fish swimming upstream. The last time I watch it and be careful, it’s addicting there were 5 bears trying to feast on the fish.

This is a live stream of the bears at the Katmai National Park in Alaska and I believe the camera is hosted by Explore.org. You can click on the live cam of the bears below to start watching. Feel free to share this with any of your friends that love watching wildlife live.
